Habitat:
Woodchip garden bed, beside river. Alitude 300m.

Gills: Brown gills

Stem: About an inch long, white, thick,

Cap: About 2-3cms, browm, smooth, spherical, convex

Spore print color: Spore print underway, will update post in a few hours.
Bruising: It appears that there could be slight brusing on the tops of the caps which i noticed in the bunch on the ground and on the caps. Doesn't seem to have gotten anymore bruised since cutting *see far left cap in below pic.

Any help appreciated

Im not sure but it looks a lot like Psathyrella foenisecci. Wait for a trusted identifyer im not sure im right I only know north American mushrooms but definitely looks similar. But they grow in grass so probably not them.

Pretty sure they're subs, I can see very slight bruising and I can see the spore colour on the wood chips in the second picture, which is dark purple. But it's hard to tell with how dry and strange looking these ones are

Definitely not subs. If you look at the spore deposit on the stipe of the mushroom on the third picture under the title “gills” it’s more or less brown. Also the gills are not the correct colour.
My guess is that these are either a Galerina Sp. or maybe Cortinarious Sp. It is a little difficult to discern because their condition. If the print is brown than its likely Galerina if it’s a more rusty reddish brown than Cortinarious.
Either way these aren’t active and very likely poisonous.

Where are you seeing the spore deposit? It's clearly dark purple in the second photo

Looks more like shriveled veil remnants or fibers to me. This looks more like a spore deposit, from the wood chips beside the cluster

That woodchip seems to be a small distance from the main cluster where I can’t see much more dark purple spore deposits.
Even so I find that the veil remnants tend to catch some of the spores and show off it’s colour. I’ve never seen subs with that colour concentrated on the ring zone, not to mention the gill colour and general lack of blue bruising on stocky woodchip specimens.
I’m not going to argue the point though. Let’s wait for that spore print from the OP.

That's true, there could very well be several different species growing around there, and the main cluster definitely doesn't look super sub-ish

I get a lot of these near me in NSW.
They grow in the same habitat as subs - sometimes right next to subs.
Immature specimens look very similar to young subs, but they lack any dark bruising, and the cap is more vibrant and vivid orange than the tan colour of subs.
I have no idea what they actually are though.

I think these look like a Cortinarius species.

Robust, thick stemmed specimens of subs, will most definitely exhibit obvious blue bruising. These do not.
Also ive never seen fat Galerina, they keep a good diet, but ive never really seen big ones before and they can get big.
Im definitely with bagels on this one, my moneys on Cortinarius.

Going by the colour of the gills & the spore deposit on the fifth picture I would also agree on Cortinarius.

I've seen a fair few giant stocky Galerinas over the years albeit around pine plantations, not wood chip garden beds.

Good to know mate. I definitely gotta keep a more open mind as to what Galerina can be. Maybe i have seen fat ones and passed em off as something else.

We're definitely on the same page

They’re not very clear, though the last three photos of this post shows some thicker Gals.
Wish I had some photos from previous years.
