why homo-sapien is weird
    #2680135 - 05/14/04 11:02 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

we really do have some strange behavior as a species, dont we. i believe we are the only animal to wear clothes. isnt that strange? and if we are going to wear them, why would we wear clothes that arent very functional? well, im sure some people will have answers, but i still think its a funny thing.

thats just one example, there are many things we do as a world-society that doesnt really make much sense to me. i find us to be a strange animal in this world of organisms. no doubt our large brains and intellect play a huge part in our behavior.

i wanted to make a list of some strange things we tend to do, and i thought it would be cool to ask you to name some. so if you can think of any, and feel up tp it, put it down. thanks

Um you probably don't want somebody disagreeing with you but.. clothes keep us warm, they also make us look cool. Seems pretty simple to me.

looking cool is important because the cooler you look the more likely you are to fuck and have little babies that will some day try to look cool so THEY can fuck. it is ingrained in our culture or some shit.

Sometimes I get scared when I am in society because I start thinking about how I am surrounding by people that are completely fucking crazy. It's madness...

Hm? Debatable, other animals take drugs, could be considered psychedelics depending on your view of them

I believe some gorilla or such takes iboga, and that is a true psychedelic

Deer also take amanita muscaria in certain parts of the world, that is debateable on whether it's a psychedelic or not but the deer love it

isnt that strange? and if we are going to wear them, why would we wear clothes that arent very functional? well, im sure some people will have answers, but i still think its a funny thing.

---clothes are a form of self-expression, just like art and music.

Shiiiit, that nigga is crazy.

They day i realized that people were just way out of wack was just a little while ago.
a kid was murdered in Toronto and they posponed the court date, because the jury wanted to watch the hockey game and said they wouldn't be able to conctrate enough on the trail because they would be thinking of the score.

now that is messed up.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that. It seems like the gorillas may have a psychedelic experience with the iboga, but I wonder if animals with less developed brains react to the drugs in the same way that we do (e.g. the deer [elk?] eating amanita). I mean, nothing happens to us when we eat catnip for the most part, right?

I was quoting Dr. George Koob...a very famous drug researcher whose psychology class I had the pleasure to take this year. I have tremendous respect for this man because unlike any DARE teacher you might have had in elementary school, he really did present just the unbiased facts without judgement. An interesting interview with Bill Moyer's of PBS can be found here...

well, humans have very complex relationships, thus leading to complex societies. after we clinched survival and had time to create and think abstactly, then we also had more time and energy to put into our societies and weird habits in the society.

humans have religion, now thats weird. humans also kill echother in large numbers, genocide. killing your same species is obviously nothing new or weird, but doing it in large numbers is another thing...and im pretty sure that humans are the only species to off eachother insuch vast numbers...especially for things other than survival.

the institution of marriage is a bit odd for a few reasons.

now, i wouldnt consider anything we do to be 'wrong' or 'stupid' but to look at it with wonder is kind of cool. we definetly are a funny primate!
...but also very blessed, fortunate, or lucky, or whatever you want to call it.

cows and sheep eat mushrooms, squiriles and dear eat amanitas, deer eat pot plants (outdoor growers know), some insects eat mushrooms too, some polinating birds flock to dautra plants.

Got a question about a substance?  Erowid might already have your answer! Have questions about the  mushroom experience? The  Tripper's FAQ may have your answer or someone else might have had your question before.

i know that koala bears are perpetually high from eating the eukaliptus leaf, cats from catnip, these are just the first two i could think of and they eat these other than to survive b/c there is other food around and they consciously pick these....also, monkeys eat fermented fruit and become drunk during a certain time of year, i think its in the amazon. the monkeys have a variety of fruit to pick from...they choose the "drunk fruit." they also fall out of the trees alot during that time of year. koalas fall out of trees alot too. hehe, that be a funny sight...death by falling koala!<--hey, thats a pretty good name for a band
