I'm going to be using Damian5050's tub tek in the next week, and would like to know what size coir brick he's using in the sub recipe? Thanks

Probably a 650 gram. Thats typically what the pet stuff is sold in.

Here's a tip. You could weigh it. When I was first starting out I would follow tek's to T, because thats how we learn. I was using huge bricks that I got. And it was a huge pain to saw off chunks and try to weigh them. Made a mess too.
The stuff you get at the pet store are all weighed in 650 g bricks. Thats what most teks use. Buy the packs of 3. There rarely all the same size. So just make up batches of 3 because you know the total weight of the 3 bricks versus the weight of the individual bricks.
I generally follow the recipe of 1 brick (650g) 2 quarts of vermiculite approx 8oz of gypsum (I just use a solo cup) 4 quarts of boiling water

650g. Also, if you are breaking a larger brick, don't saw it. It's much easier to wedge something like a screwdriver into it and chip off big chunks. Pet mountain has a good price if you're willing to buy in bulk.

I usually have to scale down larger recipes bc there's only 1 quart of spawn ready at any given time. Also, I hate to 'put all my eggs in one basket'. Thanks!

Multiply all 5050 measurements by .2 to get 1 spawn jar's worth of coir prepped but honestly, idk if .8 quarts of boiling water is enough to pasteurize your coir.
I use the same logic about eggs in different baskets so I wait till I have 5 quarts of spawn then make 5 separate shoeboxes. That will use the whole brick of coir

Thanks, Metap. My thoughts exactly! I'll do pasteurization on a low burner.

Yeah something with a point- can also snap off pieces with your hand when that brick starts self-slicing
