Dry Rye Sterilization

Hello all. New to the forum but not to growing. I’m testing a new idea (as far as I know), so I thought I’d share. My PC recently crapped out on me, so I’m going to try dry roasting the rye on an oven tray at 300 degrees until they get a little toasty, then I’ll soak and cook the rye before I steam the jars for a couple hours.
I’m thinking the dry roast will kill any contams in the rye.
Thoughts? Regardless, going to do a couple spawn jars, so we’ll keep you posted.

im not feeling it.
i would instead make up rye in jars. then boil once maybe 90 minits, then wait 24 hours and boil 90 minits again.
there are a number of reasons why the roast approach is problematic get another cooker asap.

I’m open to your opinion. I’m most interested in those reasons why dry roasting BEFORE the same fractional sterilization you’re suggesting is a bad idea. Seems like it would eliminate the contams that the fractional sterlilize would otherwise leave behind.

Okay okay okay. Well, I’m still gonna try it and see what happens, ya naysayers.

In all my amateur attempts, the only successful harvest I've had used sterilized rye grains that I had pre-"boiled" for 90 minutes at 160 degrees.
The reason for doing this is to both activate the grain, like sprouting grains as well as to activate any infectious particles that might be resilient to dry heat. This also helps with removing the starches from the grains that provide additional sugars which promote infection.
After pre-boiling, I rinsed the grains well and baked them again at roughly 170 degrees for 90 minutes, before they went into half gallon mason jars for pasteurization in the pressure cooker.
Finally, the grain colonized in roughly 2.5-3 weeks due to the size of the jars and were used to seed monotubs.
If you want a reason for why it is necessary to pre-boil the grains there it is, now several years later I'm returning to the hobby with the epiphany that not following these steps is why my "PF tek" attempts failed 9 times out of 10.

You're not going to be able to sterilize something organic with dry heat. Any part that reaches an effective sterilization temperature is going to be charred from the oxidation. Just steam sterilize for a long period of time. I don't know the minimum for you have to success but RR steams his for 8 hours.

Word. I’m thinking two sessions as well.
I fell asleep steaming a 1/2 gal jar of rye two weeks ago and it ran for about that long. Then I ran it again a few day later for 3. it’s still unopened, sitting pretty on top of my fridge without a speck of weirdness yet.
