I'll consider taking bribes. You can still vote how you want. One of my friends just retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He had to change political parties four times.

I'll also quote myself, at least the relevant bits:
Quote:
Kryptos said: You've got mandatory driver's licenses, you've got mandatory taxes, you've got mandatory vehicle/home registration, mandatory voting would be the easiest of the bunch.
You could even make it easy: if you don't vote, you can't get government benefits. No tax deductions, no registration, no driver's license, etc. That way, not voting is still a choice, just an expensive one.
How is choosing not to have a driver's license (good luck getting to work, or anywhere), not paying taxes (Okay, so you are no longer able to earn or spend money not only in the continental US, but also as a US citizen worldwide), and you can't own a house or a vehicle, an example of "none of those things are mandatory"?
Further, How is my followup of "Well, no voting means no benefits", different from "If you vote I'll give ya 50$"? And yes, there is the obvious taking vs. giving, but if you combine all of the statements together, someone that doesn't pay mandatory taxes (by, once again, literally not ever creating value, which is taxable, and not spending their income, which is taxable) functionally does not exist. How do we work with that?

So you can't spell at all, on a regular basis. Even on a phone you should be able to do better. You say you are a computer engineer, but somehow you don't have access to a computer.

I do vote by mail, or absentee or whatever. Not sure what the difference is. My parents did it for many years before I finally gave it a go. Frankly, I actually don't think it's a very good idea. I think you should actually have to go down and present ID to prove who you are and stuff like that.
I've just always felt that you should have to do that and it seems strange that we don't have to. The very first time I voted when I was 18, I tried showing them my ID and they were like "lol we don't need to see that" and I was super confused. It just seems like a basic security precaution we should probably take, even in the absence of any voting fraud.
Having said that, I don't think mailing vs. going in person is really going to result in any difference considering that most states have been doing mail in or absentee for many years now. I just think we should convert to requiring ID in person and stuff. But it's nothing I'd get worked up about like the way some people are about it, again it's been going on for many years now. And even if it happens in person, it isn't any better if we don't check ID.

So what about people that work a lot and may not even be in their own state at the time to vote, fuck em, they don't get a voice?

Yeah, I registered to vote by mail and my wife didn't this last time around. So I decided to just go with her. It's two blocks from my home, but the lines were out the door and around the corner in 90 degree heat. It sucked. I'll be voting by mail next time.

They just sent me an application to vote by mail. In Illinois the county clerks, even when they're republicans, are cool and very motivated to get out the vote. The secretary of state tries to register everyone who has a driver's license.

I can see it now: the day before voting day, every US soldier worldwide is loaded up, their gear abandoned, and shipped home to vote. Of course, as a result, every one of our enemies willingly declares a truce. Two days later, they're back and blasting brown people.
