yall just decriminalized weed

where should I move to in the state? now that I dont have to worry about carrying weed and getting tossed in jail.

where will I be least discriminated upon.

I used to hate the place cause of the laws and uppity whites, but I love Appalachia, and they have a good climate for outdoor weed

Charlottesville is pretty alright when the neo nazis aren't visiting.

Pretty sure growing is not decriminalized but I'm certain folks do it in Appalachia. Used to be ripe with meth before DEA crackdowns.

So there's that...

Nah if you want liberal pretty much anything in a 40 mile radius of DC is pretty liberal.

Hey that friend I mentioned in Roanoke is brown.

She messaged me recently to catch up too, I'll ask her about it all on your behalf. She's super nice and chill and I love her with all my heart and I wish she would just move back to Pennsylvania tho :crankey:

Well if it makes you feel better almost none of the Nazis that did the Charlottesville rallies or the others were actually from the state.

I like Roanoke alot. I use it as a halfway stopping point when I'm traveling to my fam's land.

I mean it has all the things you'd expect but it's totally fine. Ya know rednecks and a little bit of southern poverty but it's not bad. It's close to the national forests, it's close to Charlottesville, and IIRC alot of people there are black.

Same with Charlottesville.

I'd suggest you you visit for a week or two if you can to get a feel for the place.

I've noticed alot of mountain biking trails have been springing up.

I'd say most of the racial tension in VA is political tension if you steer clear of some parts of the country.

Video sounds like someone who never visited outside of Nova.

I've never met anyone in the last 20 years that eats rabbits. Alot of people joke about it... Because alot of people did it 30+ years ago.

My grandparents raised rabbits for eating because they were poor as shit. They didn't keep eating it when dirt cheap processed meat became available.

Though maybe they probably should have.

Probably. But my favorite thing about the area is seeing the change.

It was rough during the Obama era but the after effects were on the whole very positive

Never been to DC and if I ever go for the Smithsonian or something I'm taking a train.

The state's roads were largely built over old horse and buggy routes and it shows. Wasn't made for automobiles, much less the numbers.

Oh snap Virginia. Finally. But now I've been outta there.

NoVA/DC traffic was voted worse in the whole country for awhile there. Probably still is. Whenever we go back to visit, I instantly cringe and anxiety rises. I'm not used to driving there anymore haha. I was so used to the traffic and dumb drivers it wouldn't even phase me but now I'm so used to the driving in the mountains.

Also when visiting DC, Cookies, stop at the Springfield exit and hop on the train/metro station from there. You're always going to be in traffic around the area, but it's easier not to get lost and end up at the wrong place in DC in your car. I've been to the Smithsonian millions of times and still always love it. Always makes me feel like a kid haha.

My family is from VA Beach and Roanoke. VA Beach has its perks and also some trashy areas of course. Roanoke is beautiful but not sure what the climate is like over there. Prob just the normal Appalachian type feel.

And this is what people mean when they talk about systemic racism.

You could snuff out all the living racism and the problems with systemic racism would still be there. Unfortunately.

In appalachia you can see black towns from people that were fleeing the deeper south or trying to get to the industrial north and never quite made it there. It's crumbling like most appalachian towns but it's shocking to me how even in some of the most desperate of places black people still got shoved in the very worst of that lot.

What was once apparently coal mine corporation owned housing was just... left. Left on the sides of fucking mountains shoved together on the 12 feet of semi horizontal land they could find. Left together to be patched like shacks.

I think situations like that don't help the racism in the rural south. Like.... you fucking made cliff dwellers out of them.

I mean all of the coal mine belt poverty is appalling but when you apply a few hundred years of systemic racism on top of that it looks... like fucking north korea or some shit.

DC traffic has such infamy I won't touch it. I'll drive 100 miles out of my way if I want to get to something on the other side cuz... just that much of fuck that.

I do hope to see the smithsonian one day though :sadyes:

VA beach is not one of the nicer beaches I've been to but it's still a beach town and offers pretty much all you could want of that. I really hate that all the public areas has boardwalk though. Dunno whose idea that was.

You don't want to hear about how Jackson probably got that nickname because he was a narcoleptic and asleep on top of his horse during the battle and history probably misinterpreted that because the officer that gave him that nickname was killed that battle?

That's unfortunate.

There's a series of books that explore what would have happened if the Confederate states won the war and the country wasn't reunited.

That's basically the authors conclusion. Ww1 and 2 with fronts in America between the Confederate states and the union. Imagine the blood bath.

And also everyone nukes everyone at the end. That and the African American Holocaust is a bit farfetched but I could see that being quiet bad anyway.

Admittedly I have not read all the books. Lost interest and tolerance after WW1 but alternate history hub did a lore video on it.

I think that would be the premise of HBO now cancelled civil war TV show.

People are afraid of further confederate glorification or justification but from what I've read the books do the opposite.

Ive lived in nova/fairfax county pretty much my entire life. The traffic is the bad, but 10x that in MD. Its not a bad spot, but not great.

Fairfax county has the worst traffic in the world. The only reason I’ve been visiting my friends in va more often is the pandemic has made the beltway around Tyson’s and 66 more bearable traffic wise
