Non-Psychedelic Edible Species With Cultivation Similar To Cubensis?

I’ve been enjoying the process of mushroom cultivation quite a bit, and I’m interested in growing a few non-psychedelic species. Stuff I can use in meals regularly, share with family and friends, etc.
I would like to start (at least) in familiar territory before moving into things like Lion’s Mane or Oysters or others that grow in wood. Was hoping some of you may have recommendations on a species or a few that would be in the same cultivation neighborhood as cubensis. Thanks!

King oyster
You can run it exactly like cubes.
I’m just starting edibles myself but it’s not going great so far. Way too hot for oysters. My lions mane is fruiting on the plate and actually has some nice icicles hanging off the bottom of the lid so I’m hoping that goes well. One guy fruited it outside in summer in San Diego so should be fine.
Go get a bag of hardwood fuel pellets, they’re super easy to work with I was surprised. Just like coir as soon as boiling water hits them they blow up into sawdust.

Oh wow, had no idea you can do that with oysters. I’ll definitely look into it.
Are you just mentioning Lion’s Mane because I brought it up, or can they be run on sawdust too?

Only king oyster will do well that way though.
Lions mane likes sawdust, most edibles seem to like the same things, straw or sawdust with bran mixed in.
The myc from it is so weird though, looks exactly like mold.

You don't even need sawdust. You can grow King oysters on coir with grain spawn. I have done it before, just mixed it 50/50
Edit: Found a picture of my first ever grow, a 5 liter coir shoebox with king oysters

I'm on a similar path as you Phrontist. I'm starting with oysters (which will even grow on cardboard trash) and Reishi (which isn't edible, but medicinal and looks rad). There are lots of resources for edible mushroom growing on youtube. Check out 'fresh cap mushrooms', they have good guides.

If you search my threads I made one a while back in the gourmet forum called “switching from cubes” or something similar.
I got a lot of good advice and links to videos.
