Pastywhyte's containers and cloning

I'm waiting until I have an actual flowhood to start fucking around with plates so I've been doing no pours with the pastywhyte method with great success but now I am about to have some samples to take clones from and I want to know how successful this would be with the miniround plates and is it cool to do this in a SAB vs a flowhood. I was thinking of using a setup like this (https://imgur.com/a/RxhRTQ8) with a bunsen burner to take clones until I can build a hood but I don't know much about this method.

A sab is just fine for cloning and pouring plates

I've used a sterilized SAB to work agar/LC/G2G with no issues of contamination.
I've use a lighter instead of an alcohol lamp/Bunsen burner, its easier to work with in a SAB.

Yeah man, if you have had success taking transfers and everything on minround plates inside SAB then you'll do well with cloning too. Im sure a flowhood is nice and more forgiving but SAB works too.

"A sab is just fine for cloning and pouring plates" I goofed when I bought my case of petri dishes. The stacks they came in are too tall to be opened in my current SAB without hitting the top or sides. I've been having good results with the minirounds so I'm happy with them for now and I would rather save the dishes for when I start branching into other species and have a more formal setup to grow in.

Up until recently I've only ran pasty plates for all of my agar, including cloning and blenderless LI, all done inside a SAB.
I started pouring plates in the SAB not too long ago. It works just fine.

Yeah I've been pouring plates and cloning in a SAB for a few years now. I would say I have like a 1% contam rate on pouring plates. Probably lower. Most contam from pouring for me arises from improper storage after the pour. I got a big ass 200 qt (50 gallon) tote for my SAB and it made all the difference.

Yea my stacks are too tall too but i just turn them on their side to get them out and then put them in stacks of 10 everyone has to do that in a normal size sab

I had a big enough SAB and I still didn’t like pouring agar. I did it when I needed to but, I felt comfortable doing no pour in it and that’s what matters. I still do a fair bit of no pour even with a hood. At the end of the day I’m just happy people are using agar. When I started in this hobby agar was discouraged as unnecessary, expensive and difficult.

In my size SAB it almost touches the top while still bagged, make good enough slit in the packaging and slowly squeeze out stack, turning the bag to one side and you good

I started with a SAB of about 60L, and it worked fine, but did get cramped at times. I'm going go for one bigger next time, 100-150L. I had little to no issues with contams, but still moved from pouring agar plates to PC'ing them, its just easier, cheaper and more reliable

The way I read this makes me think you're flame sterilizing inside the SAB, instead of outside and then going back in. If that's the case you should not do that
It creates air currents from the heat which you don't want. And it could be dangerous of course, at least with the way some people 'sterilize' their SAB.
