What in the Great Spinning Universe did I just read?

Hello all,
I am going to attempt to make this as short as possible.
I'm so confused. To be honest, I'm a well educated adult, but I have three things going against me: 1- My background has nothing to do with, and really is quite the opposite of, "science" of any kind; 2- I have very severe ADHD; 3- I have mild, high functioning ASD.
These things simply just impede my understanding of the cultivation guides. I am a complete beginner, and I just can't make sense of any of these threads. Would anyone be willing to walk me through a cultivation, step-by-step and super simplified style? I'd obviously have questions galore throughout, and would essentially need my hand held (though virtually) through the process. I know this is a lot to ask of a person, but I'm hoping against all odds that I might find some good soul willing to help me.
Thanks in advance, Qnendo

Yes... I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't make sense of it. This is not the only, but a specific problem I'm running into:
I think I understand what's going on, and then another item appears that wasn't mentioned in the "what you need," and it totally throws me. For instance, when reading about the Oat Prep, suddenly there are JARS when they weren't mentioned at the top with the things that you need. Nor was the pressure cooker. I know these things may seem "common sense" to most people, but those are the things I have trouble comprehending. Like, what size jars? How do I sterilize them? What the heck am I even making, I don't get it. I guess I'm having trouble putting it all together maybe because it's broken up in different links for different things?

Yeah home mycology is sweet and he really simplifies everything. From there... Once you've done it once you could Probally do it again with relative ease.
There are many ways to do it, at first I was also so confused about all the stuff I needed and every person does things differently quite intimidating. I made a list of absolutely everything that might be needed and proceeded to buy chunks of it bit by bit until I had it all. Now I just picked a simple way to grow them... Brown rice flour cakes injected with a spore Syringe and once done I birthed them mixed into coco coir (coconut husk) into little tubs and bingo a couple weeks later behold some mushrooms
My excitement held me back, thinking I was a master cultivator before I had even grown anything lol, alot of it failed badly... This made me start from the beginning choosing the most simple way. You will learn alot from your mistakes, cause it really hurts and that's how over time you will grow in confidence and really start to enjoy growing them:)

Please for the love of god steer clear of that YouTube channel, everything that you need is here and if you're being genuine you'll find plenty of experienced growers willing to clarify any details that you're struggling with.
If you would like to watch instructional video's I and many others here would recommend that you watch RR's series "let's grow mushrooms " He is an old hand moderator and trusted cultivator on this site, the guy from the previously mentioned channel does not use tried and tested methods and it will invariably cause more confusion and problems. Absolutely do not follow the advice on the "home mycology" channel

dude dont take this the wrong way man but if u cant follow a simple step by step set of instructions how in the sam fucking hell do you get thru life?? i mean its no different than, bring 6 cups of water to a boil, add in noodles and boil till desired tenderness, strain the noodles using a strainer, return noodles to pan, stir in a hlf cup of milk, add butter, empty contents of cheese packet and stir till all mixed, serve and eat. so if u cant make fucking mac n cheese then honestly growing psychoactive mushrooms should be the least of your god damn worries. cuz honestly it just sounds to me and prolly some others that your not willing to put in the research and the effort required and just want someone to do all that shit for you. so id say just find a drug dealer cuz thats not what we do here man. we will gladly help ya along but we sure as fucking shit aint gnna hold your hand and basicly do shit for you. u gtta want it bad enough to be serious and put in the required effort man 🤷🏼🤷🏼so take it for what it is cuz thats my opinion

I know asd makes things hard to follow unless people are very very specific. Alot of guides do skip basic steps and make assumptions. I suggest videos as visualizing helps make steps clearer.
I very much second the let's all grow mushrooms videos by rr. It's very plain and simple
Do not follow any advice from the home mycology, this will lead to frustration, confusion, and failure. I would also skip gordotek, and arvin47 neither are very good information sources and won't hold your attention

You would probably have better luck with a pf tek style grow using Ziran's updated pf tek for example. That one had all the things listed you need as far as I know

Hey man, I'm a noob too and I am also on the spectrum so I totally get your struggles and though I can't offer a great deal of help I can say that I get where you are coming from (my daughter is also Aspy) and anyone shitting on you needs to be bloody thankful that they don't have struggles in their world and are so damned perfect. That dude above crapping on you needs to just shut his mouth and if he has no help to offer, just piss off somewhere else. I am sure though that there will be plenty of decent folk that will help you out and help fill in the blanks for you. I personally have not been excluding any mycology channels and have been watching everyone I can find to see how they do it and Home mycology is one I actually really enjoy watching. I know he is rough and I know he doesn't use strict scientific protocols but there is still value in what he shares (good and bad). I started searching mycology videos and have found thousands that have filled in many blanks for me and I am a list writer so I add new things I find out to a list and that is helping me immensely. They all have value in one way or another (even just for me to learn the names of things in the mycology world). I wish you the best in your learning journey, you will get there in the end as will we all. mush love

i was a bio-chem rock star in college. everything else stupified me. yet i have several degrees.
the answer here is simple, "outsourcing" any problem can be solved with enough bribes and a good team behind the scenes.

Hey man, I’m gonna break it down by the numbers. Hopefully this checklist style can show just how simple things can be.
Step 1) Acquire necessary equipment - If you have a Walmart or similar near you then you can probably get everything in one stop. You will want: - Spore syringe - Pressure cooker. If you do not already have one check thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, etc. you should be able to find something for pretty cheap. - a few quart mason jars - Grain for spawn. Rye is considered the gold standard but let’s go with wild bird seed or popcorn so that you aren’t having to look too hard to find what you need. - some coco coir. You’ll easily find this in the pet aisle with reptile stuff if you go to say a Walmart but you can also find coir at hydroponics/hardware stores too. - A nice small plastic container like a little 3qt organizer box. - A larger clear plastic tote (think like the big 66qt or whatever ones). - A drill - a sharpie - Aluminum foil - micropore tape (this will be with first aid and bandage stuff). - pearlite ( little white pebbly looking stuff. It will be in the hardware/garden section). - rubbing alcohol - spray bottle
Got all that? Good that was the hard part.
2) To prep your grain you will want to soak the grain overnight in order to wake up any bacteria that are hiding in there (some little nasties make these super tough things called endoscopes to survive until they have favorable conditions. We are tricking them into coming out of hiding before we sterilize). After that you will simmer your grains to get some moisture in them. Depending on your choice in grain check out Popcorn - https://mycotopia.net/topic/63118-turkeyranch’s-easy-popcorn-spawn-pictorial/ Bird seed - https://www.shroomology.org/forums/topic/337-str0bes-no-fail-wbs-tek/
3) To prepare your jars you will make a hole in center of the metal top with your drill or alternatively a nail/hammer. Load up the jars about 2/3 of the way with your grain, put a layer of aluminum foil over the top and then put the lid with hole over it and tighten then ring. When the ring around the jar is tight loosen it say a quarter inch or so. This ensures that steam can escape and helps prevent busting your jar.
4) Once your jars are ready you will want to use the pressure cooker to sterilize. What we are gonna do is simply load up the PC with your jars and cook for 2 hours at 15psi. Make sure you have water in the PC! And start the time once the PC is at temp (for mine this is when it makes the most obnoxious rocking noise).
4) Once time is up move the PC off the heat and let it slowly cool down. Take your jars out and let them cool overnight to make sure we don’t accidentally cook the baby mushies.
5) Wipe the lid down with rubbing alcohol, prepare your spore syringe (unscrew the little plastic piece, screw on the needle, sterilize with flame/alcohol).
6) Push the needle through the hole/aluminum foil in the lid and squirt a couple drops of spore solution against the glass on all four sides.
7) Quickly cover the hole with micropore tape and keep your jar(s) someplace with a comfortable temperature. Warmer spots will lead to faster growth but increase the risk of contamination so room temperature is fine.
8) *optional* you can shake your jars when they are about 30% colonized (covered in white mycelium). This can help to speed up colonization and let you know if there is contaminants (growth will stall) but I tend to skip it.
9) Once your jars are fully colonized we are gonna sterilize the coir by pressure cooking. I recommend doing this in a turkey cooking bag or something because you will have too much coir and it’s a mess to clean). Do not let the coir go down your drain or you will hate life. If it does stop up your drain use an acid based drain cleaner instead of lye (check label and look for hydrochloride acid not sodium hydroxide).
10) While the coir is cooking take your smaller sterilize container and give it a quick wipe with rubbing alcohol before lining it with aluminum foil.
11) When coir has cooled you will mix a quart of your colonized grain (called spawn) with an equal amount of coir and mix it all up. Now throw a sheet of aluminum foil over the top, crimp the edges of the foil flat, and put the lid back on.
12) Leave the small container alone for one week. During this time you can prepare your fruiting chamber. Take a marker and mark spots 2 inches apart over EVERY side of the tote. Now drill a whole in each spot. Be careful about pressing too hard so you avoid cracking the container.
13) Pour pearlite in the tote until it is about 4 inches deep. I recommend doing this outside and wearing a mask (it’s Covid season so you should have one anyways lol). Now dump a bunch of water in the tote until it’s thoroughly soaked.
14) Place your Swiss cheese looking tote (called a shotgun fruiting chamber) on some kind of raised platform so that air can get underneath it. Ideally you want to be say 1.5 feet off the floor.
15) Open the smaller container and take off the top layer of foil. You should have a nice white rectangle of colonized substrate. Simply pull this out of the container and set it on top of the pearlite in your fruiting chamber.
16) Mist everything around 3-6 times a day and use the lid to fan for a minute or two after every misting. If you live someplace humid you can probably get by with less and if it’s dry you might need to do more.
17) Have patience and you will start to see little dots called hyphae knots, those will become tiny little pale spikes called primordial, those primordial will begin to gain size and color and are called pins, those pins will then grow into your first crop of mushrooms!
Honestly man, it’s really not hard at all. Just take a deep breath and follow each step and you will be fine.
*Edited to include spores as necessary item.

1. So what. 90% or more of everyone here is the same boat 2. Its a fake disorder. 3. Then you're better suited to this anyway. I've worked with people all over the spectrum and all high functioning ASD individuals would be candidates for excelling at mushroom growing.
