well crap!
    #26796192 - 07/01/20 04:03 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

These were 20g from my first grow. I dehydrated them about 2 weeks ago and put them in a little jar. I was saving them for this weekend. I grab the jar this morning and see what appears to be mold. They felt cracker dry when I put them in the jar. These now feel soft.

Are they still edible?

Ask yourself, would you eat a strawberry if it was covered in mold? Don't do dumb shit just because you might get a buzz out of it 😂.

The questions for going forward are, what was your drying method? Is the lid on the jar you stored them in air tight/sealing? Did you store them with a desiccant pack?

I used a dehydrater. I think where I went wrong was not letting them cool long enough after pulling them out. I put them in a jar and that caused condensation to build up.

I didn’t think they were good but hey penicillin was made from mold 😂😂

That's definitely not why they are moldy.
Either you didn't dehydrate long enough or your jar isn't airtight.

This, properly stored cracker dry shrooms can last years.
How long did you dehydrate for on which setting? What kind of jar did you use?

Ok I guess I didn't maybe do them long enough. My dehydrator doesn't have a setting. Its on or off. I left them in for about 5-6 hours. I really can't remember. They felt cracker dry to the touch when i felt them and seemed real brittle. The jars was just a 8 oz mason jar like I used for my BRF cakes.

For future reference how will I know if they are dry enough?

Try snapping one or cutting it with a knife, it should be extremely brittle, with practically no flexibility.

You could take one out every 30 mins and compare it to the other samples you've taken, go until you see no change and then keep going for another 30-60 mins to be sure, that level of heat shouldn't effect potency, the active compounds are stable at higher temperatures.

On top of that, try a different container that seals with some kind of rubber gasket.

If you're still feeling paranoid, you could try the dry ice preservation method, where you drop a chunk in, wait for it to fully sublimate into a gas and fill the jar and displace a lot of oxygen, then carefully seal the jar.

Then put that jar in a freezer.

Then put the freezer in an underground arctic vault.
