Hot water vs alcohol extraction of psilocybin

I'm looking to make an extract to liquid from dried cubensis mushrooms to use to make gummies.
What are the pros and cons of doing at hot water (, or cold water ( extraction vs an alcohol extraction (?
What are the typical half lives of the psilocybin when extracted in these methods and can that be extended when oxygen and light is removed, in a gummy for example. Is there any consensus on potency loss in any of these extraction methods?
Is there a more intensive extraction process that retains potency and extends shelf life?
Cheers

Well I tried a hot water extraction using acetic acid to get the pH down to 4. Simmered at about 140 F for a couple hours. Then simmered the liquid down to half of what I put in. At a higher temp but below boiling. Strained the liquid and used to make gummys right away. Ate the gummys a few days later. About 20g dried worth. Didn't work.

A light simmer for a few minutes only is all you need. Boiling for several hours probably destroys the actives.

I was under the impression psilocybin doesn't degrade at boiling temps, closer to 300F. However the boiling will bring in aeration that will oxidize and degrade the psilocybin. I never once boiled because of that, only simmered below boiled temp to avoid bubbling.

Or do what o do and boil rapidly for one minute, then steep for ten. Never lost any potency, ever

Boiling isn't aeration, it's steam. A few minutes at most at a rolling boil followed by steep for 5-10 mins works great IME.

Ive always wondered about boiling if it introduces oxygen and oxidizes the actives as it rolls. But I think you are right that it is steam coming from within the water. After all steam is when water molecules break apart from one another due to temperature. But does that create a small vacuum for a short amount of time? I always feel like tea is always atleast 10% weaker than eating them. Maybe I will try a simmer for longer next time, just to see.

Just try breathing steam sometime.
