Myc or contam? [pics]

Let me know what you think, I inoculated four 1/2 pint wide mouth BRF/verm jars 9 days ago. One of my jars looks funky and I expected all contams since it’s my first grow in over 10 years and my sterile tek was never the best but always trying to improve.
Here is my original thread:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26790710
Here’s two cakes from the same inoculation date:
Cake 1:

Cake 4:

To me this doesn’t look like how mycelium starts forming and looks too wispy, like mold, as opposed to thin white threads.
Also I know these cakes are too wet, since this is the first batch, I’ve adjusted the amount of water and verm so that all the water is absorbed. I also mixed the substrate much more thoroughly in the following jars I inoculated.
The other three of four cakes(Including cake 1, which is the farthest along at 9 days) in this batch seem to be doing well however it’s very possible this jar is contaminated because I did forget to flame sterilize the needle in between one of the jars. For now I moved jar 4 to a separate room and threw it in a drawer.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, jar 4 doesn't look great. I like to keep bad jars and observe them to better understand the interaction between myc and contams, but that's a personal thing. I wouldn't hold out much hope...

Thanks for the quick reply dude !
As I expected, and I’m not but already separated it from the group. I have 8 more jars that I inoculated four each on 6/24 and 6/27 respectively so hopefully I am able to fruit something. I am only looking to do about four to six 5L tubs using Mateah’s humidity chamber tek using perlite instead of coir https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25339094/fpart/all/vc/1

Not trying to piss in the Kool aide, but I'm not sure it'll be the same with perlite due to evaporation difference.
Myself and countless others have used The SGFC Tek (which makes use of perlite) with good results.
May I ask why you don't want to go that route?
That said, if you're just looking to experiment I'd say go for it. If you're looking for as close to a guaranteed result as possible, I'd follow what others have done with success.

Perlite is just what I have on hand however I could just acquire some coco coir for the tubs. I’m only trying to do small tubs and will use the lid as FAE; I’d rather go with a mostly unmodified tub

That’s a fair point. What is a decent method to sterilize that jar so that I can use it again ? I’ve read soaking it in a bleach solution for a couple of hours maybe? Obviously will sterilize the jars and substrate in a pot before using it again for inoculation.
