Sorry for another flow hood post... Need help

I've already chosen my filter poorly I believe. Have a Koch biomax 99.97 24 x 18 x12 coming. Finding a blower is very frustrating. The Dayton 1TDT2 seems like it would barely push enough if that at 1.2" SP. I'm thinking I want more towards 320 - 340 at SP. Anyone have a model number that pushes that little bit more?

Knowing the surface area isn't enough to help, we need to know how much SP it has. Click the link in my sig.

It's 1" plus .2 for the prefilter according to the Koch PDF

So you've figured out what your blower needs to push at that SP, yes?

Yes. A minimum of 300 CFM hopefully something that's closer to 360. Dayton 1TDT8 specs stop after .8" SP. I know this has been discussed ALOT on here. I'm just getting frustrated. Between mush cult threads and blower spec searches I've had at least a dozen tabs open for days lol

Matching a blower can be frustrating, unfortunately it takes a ton of searching. It would be nice to have a way to determine SP beyond what's listed. There must be a formula to determine drop off for each .1 increase in resistance but I'm not aware of it. Not much help here, sorry bud.

Wish I had gone with the 99.99% 24 x 12 from Flanders. Wonder if I can cancel my eBay/Zoro order

Only one way to find out. Check out Myers mushrooms as well, he has filters and FFUs.

It's not 1" SP. According to some calculations from the biomax PDF, The 12" biomax filters has a 1.0" initial pressure at around 260 fpm test speed. But at 100 fpm the pressure will be lower. Probably around 0.4" or so. It's not perfectly linear. So you really only need a 300 cfm @ ~0.6" sp blower. I can tell you for sure that 6" biomax filters make about 0.6" SP at 100 fpm from personal experience. A 12" thick filter should in theory have something like half the resistance. More filter material surface area = less resistance. The material is not actually 12" thick its just about 1/4" thick, it is just folded over a piece of aluminum to fill the 12" deep frame.

I was using the 24x24 standard capacity for reference because of easy math for the few that are listed and shows both 12 and 6". You can see that the 6" thick filter was tested at 550 CFM and the 12" filter was tested at 1050 CFM. That would make the 12" filter 1.0" SP at 262.5 fpm and the 6" filter 1.0" SP at 137.5 fpm. And this should be the same for his filter even though it is a slightly different size its the same pack.

I won't pretend to understand the intricacies of this but if I can run the 1TDT2 with at least one prefilter successfully I'll be very happy.

Now that all goes out the window if you ordered the high capacity version you will need to add like 0.2" to that number.

You can run a 1TDT2 on that no problem. Probably have to block a little bit of the intake, even.

While I have you here.. is there any reason I can't put the blower behind the plenum encased in a compartment with the back end open or covered with grating? The prefilter should suck up to it when it runs. Storage would easier for me if it were just 1 20" x 26" x "36ish box.

I think I see what you are saying. Like this?

If so there is no reason you couldnt make it work. Many real hoods have the blowers in odd places. Don't think you are going to be moving this around though. Especially making the box so big. It will be heaaaavy and bulky. Too much to grab. Also make sure there is plenty of room in between the prefilter box and the back of the filter, I'd shoot for like 8-10"+ if it was my design.
