What's happening?

First time doing this and everything has gone great so far. Grain Spawn smelled delicious. 50/50 coir Verm mono. After 10 day colonize I put I to fruiting and nothing now for 11 days. I see it's dry on the outer edges so I will start misting that tonight. But the middle looks good I believe. What do you think? I also see very obvious signs of contam throughout. Did that kill it?

Not shit man just chillin, about to leave work and try to find something I feel like eating. What’s up whichu?
Oh.. Well like you said, it’s contaminated. Most likely bacterial spawn, which gives mycelium that thick creamy look, and bacterial spawn often leads to mold after it weakens the mycelium.
Your surface conditions look great but I don’t think much will happen cuz it looks like you have several different things growing throughout the sub.
What did you use as spawn? And how did you inoculate said spawn?
And just curious if you used an actual 50/50 ratio of coir to verm? 70-30 coir to verm is more true standard. A guy called daimon5050 made the OG bucket tek and that’s caused a bunch of confusion with coir.

I used wild bird seed as Spawn in a SAB. Yes you are correct it was prob closer to a 70/30 mix. When I cracked them to Spawn to bulk they smelled great. Nothing other than mushroom smell. I feel like after the 10 day colonize I cracked the lid to peek in and really get a good look inside..... It was about 90% colonized. So I may have jumped the gun on initiating fruiting but I feel like I may have allowed a couple contams in when I did that?

For what it's worth, healthy spawn doesn't usually contam before a few flushes.
Maybe if it was spawned into a super wet sub and completely sealed bacteria could take over...
It's can be difficult to see bacteria in spawn. Most often it will be a section of the jar that the myc doesn't readily colonize unless it's REALLY bad.
Do you have pictures of the jars before spawning?

11 days isn’t that long, but I would give it more air.
It’s plenty wet and I don’t see any knotting yet so that might help. Sometimes it just takes a while though.

I hear everyone say that if a tub gets contaminated that it was probably the jar, the Spawn. Is there anything else that could cause a contam on coco an Verm? I suspect my tub was possibly too wet which could have contributed to this nastiness lol Is the source of contam more often than not gonna be bad Spawn? As I said they smelled great before spawning. On to the next I suppose and I will continue to exercise sterility until the end. I kind of didn't take sterility too serious after it was colonized.

Yeah it's almost always the spawn. Most especially with coir/verm. I spawn right into fruiting conditions, the same the whole time, opening them often to peek at what's up and misting if it looks a little dry. When you spawn you're mixing in all kinds of contaminant spores so there's no more need to be sterile. Clean myc will roll through and won't give anything else a chance to germinate.
Coir is used as reptile bedding and they moisten it with regular water and it sits for weeks without molding. Stuff just doesnt germinate easily on coir.

I for the first time just peeked at another tub I have colonizing right now and after seeing what that tub did in 6 days VS this tub in 10 days or so..... I believe in you wholeheartedly lol Must've had bad Spawn and my nose deceived me 😁 So one thing I wonder now is what's the difference between the jar and the tub? If a jar has great myc growth but a tiny contam in the middle of jar where you can't see it. How come in a tub the myc rolls through it but In a jar it will possibly become a contam that ruins a tub? You've been very helpful thnx by the way

The grain is real nutritious so any spores can grow on it easily, so if you get a little something in there when inoculating it will germinate and then be in a live state, growing alongside your myc and certain molds like trich are parasitic and will entwine with the myc. Then when you spawn to bulk you're also putting that mold into a place where it can "fruit" or at least drop its spores everywhere.
If your grain is clean and 100% colonized it is covered and filled with cube mycelium so it won't allow anything to germinate on it, and since all the spores that are always in the air don't readily germinate on coir/verm you can just spawn in the open air and not really worry anymore about contamination. At least until it's flushed a couple times and starts to weaken.
