- 1970: Thomas Sinnott, Donald Darragh and 5 others are sentenced for DMT lab bust
Quote:
ILLEGAL MANUFACTURE OF DMT
7 Sentenced on Drug Charges
Sentences of one to three years were issued by U.S. District Judge Miles W. Lord Tuesday against seven Twin City-area people on charges involving manufacture of the hallucinogenic drug DMT. The defendants, arrested in January by federal officials, were accused of aiding and abetting production of the drug at a boathouse near Marine on St. Croix, Minn. All pleaded guilty to the charges under which they were sentenced. They are Thomas Sinnott, 22, Edina, who was sentenced to 2 1/2 years for possession of a dangerous drug for purposes of, sale; his brother Steven D. Sinnott, 21, 4506 Wooddale Av. S., one year for illegal possession of a dangerous drug; Russell C. Peehl Jr., 1653 Glenview St., St. Paul, two years for conspiracy to manufacture illegal drugs; Robert J. Swigart, 20, 3324 Aquila Av. S., St. Louis Park, two concurrent sentences of two years each for conspiracy to manufacture and for actual manufacture; Donald D. Darragh, 2410 27th Av. S., three years for conspiracy to manufacture; Nils A. Lou, 37, 1400 Englewood Av., St. Paul, three years for conspiracy to manufacture, and David Bergquist, 2410 27th Av. S., one year and one day for concealing a felony. Judge Lord, referring to evidence that the defendants had contemplated making "hundreds of thousands of dollars" each from manufacture and sale of the drug, said: "All of you are guilty of, attempting to foist onto the young people of our community materials which would bring with them thousands of instances of traffic destruction of mind and body."

Darragh and Thomas Sinnott were considered the leaders of the group, Walbran said, and Sinnott was the chief chemist.

Man they've really amped up the punishments for manufacturing substances haven't they?
Back then, maybe a year, or a couple of years tops in prison. Nowadays, you'd be looking at a decade to near life sentences.
God damn America. If anything, forgive it's government, but mostly just damn it.
