So, why are you growing your own?

I've been visiting these boards off and on over the years, and since I'm in the process of harvesting a batch of shrooms, I thought I'd finally drop into these boards and talk.
I'm curious: why are you growing your own? I mean, it's a lot of work and can be frustrating. The rewards are great, of course, and it's thrilling to watch the little miracles grow inside the terrarium. We're celebrating our harvest with a trip on Saturday.
Second, what method do you use? I've read that there are a variety of methods; and the one I'm doing is PF Tek, with the dual chambered aquarium. Our yield was low due to a dirty atmosphere when we mixed the jars, and that we didn't have the jars loosened enough for sterilization. That's the theory, anyway.

I grow shrooms because I want shrooms, and there are none available around here. Even if I could buy them, I'd still grow them; better quality, cheaper, more fun :-)
I'm currently on my first grow, and I started with the pf tek, now I'm fruiting one cake and casing the rest. I don't have a pressure cooker, but when I get (access to) one I will try a wholegrain tek.

originally I wanted to grow weed with my bud, but it was too much of an investment at the moment so I started researching growing shrooms. Since there is so little money required, we figured we would go for it, so we have when we want for ourselves and to get a bit of money on the side. I feel at times (especially when I just munched some mushies) that I am doing a service to the community by supplying mushrooms hahha. Now that we have actually started growing, I realize it could become a hobby, its actually quite fun and interesting and I can't wait to try bigger and better grows. Right now I have 12 half pint PF teks which were just about finished today (no contams, first grow!), and I plan on casing with straight verm, or possible manure.

Plain and simple .... Becasue we can ......
Cakes are for bakers IMHO So that leaves you with bulk teks , or growing in composted substrates . Nothing like working on agar IMO . Grain is simple and cheap to acquire , no need for needles lying around .
Plain and simple ... Thats the plan...
Good Luck

I grow my own because:
1. It's fun to grow.
2. Home grown shrooms don't generally have bugs in them.
3. It doesn't rain nearly enough around here.
4. My friends like to trip, but don't want to hunt and don't care to grow.
5. It's fun to trip.

Finding mushrooms around here seems to be impossible. So I just decided to eliminate the middle men and make my own.

I grow because its fun, and rewarding. So fun that i'm starting to grow edible mushrooms as well soon. Something about using drugs that you made yourself makes them so much better. Plus its cheaper, my time is worthless and after intial start up costs you make your moneys worth after about one grow.

I always thought about growing shroomz, even back in my highschool days, but always thought it would be to complicated. I've grown some damn tasty bud though over the years. I still have'nt grown mushrooms yet, but after finding this website and reading teks over and over, as well as everyones posts here for awhile now, i think i will be able to pull it off easy enough. I have my spores now, just rounding up supplies =) The fact is i love to trip my balls off. I've eaten alot of mushrooms and lsd in my years, but after Jerry Garcia died in 95' we had a hard time finding either in any quantity. So i'm going to grow so my friends and i can enjoy the pleasures of the shroom, without the hassles of finding it.

#1 Because they do not grow here naturally
#2 Because I would never pay a drug dealer for them
#3 Because it is a great hobby, and experimenting is fun
#4 Edibles are so much more delicious when fresh
#5 Because you simply can't find some species of edibles in a store (shaggy mane for example)
As for method, all depends on the species. Ps Cubensis - Cased bulk substrates, I tried cakes once as an experiment, and never went back...

1. The first time I went hunting, I found all kinds of bugs in the shrooms . . . . 2. and I wasn't even sure they were the shrooms that I wanted . . . 3. I didn't want to pay a shifty assed drug dealer 4. no more night missions - trekking around some farmers pasture with with my gov't issue camos and red light . . .
To make a long story short, it's cheap, easy, fun and I can have complete confidence that I'm getting good, fresh, non-lethal shrooms and I don't have to risk gettin shot in the ass by some farmer-hick type for trespassing and picking shit off of his cow's shit! LOL
