I found a few others that I had thought might be cinctulus, but they turned out to be buggy.  I was going to put them up on a separate post because this guy looked so different to me ( particularly the margin and overall beefiness of the cap). I ended up tossing the others after I discovered the worms.

Don't toss away mushrooms just because of some small worms. Most mushrooms got them. Quick drying is the solution.
Anyway, more specimens would make an id easier, but I can't think of anything else that fits here.

I didn’t really toss them as much as break them up and re-distributed them around the pile more.
Here are some more photos from that patch if it helps.

Very cool find! These are all in good condition, no reason to discard mushrooms like that. Next time put them in front of a fan to dry them out before the bugs eats them
But yes, panaeolus cinctulus.

Awesome oh thanks everyone!  I’m pretty psyched to have found them.

No, use the dehydrator. I believe the worms came because you kept them somewhere warm and humid, fastest solution to the problem would be a fan. If you don't have a dehydrator, that is. 10x better. Put it on lowest setting.
But, mate, if you ever want to trip, don't discard mushrooms in perfect condition.

Stem looks off to me for Cinctulus. They typically have lines twisting down the stipe, these have them going straight down

So I went back for a closer look of that patch and found a few more hiding that look the same as the first finds to me. All printed black.

Panaeolus cinctulus can have straight lines. But it might be fimicola as well. Eat them, see what happens
