Hello!
New here, this site is definitely a little intimidating but I’m going to do my best to follow the instructions.
I was looking for some help/guidance on an identification.
Location : NW Florida/Panhandle Growing from A dead and very damp piece of wood I believe is oak They seem to pop up almost overnight after three or four days of rain followed by a couple days of sunshine.
I’m thinking this might be Gymnopilus lepidotus or a closely related one? Any clarification on this would be greatly greatly appreciated. Obviously want to make sure that are not a deadly look alike

Thanks!! I absolutely am in love with hunting/foraging… Got some awesome chanterelles out of my yard today as well. I live on the river in the Choctawhatchee basin right up against the forest - I have no less than 15 different specimens growing throughout my yard right now LOL
I just wanted to make sure that these are not the deadly Galerina before trying a little bit as I heard that these are most likely active!

before you eat any, take spore prints and wait for a trusted identifier to confirm what they are please.
when you do eat them, try a small sample and wait awhile be watching yourself for any signs of reaction because some people are highly allergic to some gymnopilus species. maybe eat a small sample and wait a few hours before you try dosing them for psychoactive effects

Absolutely! Thank you for the advice. As of now the spore print is kind of an orange/yellow/rust color. And I was thinking about ingesting .05g once I get more of a positive ID to see how my body reacts
