Guys, how PID works? I was thinking that it just turn on/off heating element... But you say it also works at lower watts?

So it's overall (18-24 hours cycle) cheaper to run 5500 W element than 3500 W?

Also, any idea for float valve if you don't have water hose and pressure? I was thinking about second drum with only water and I would add it manually when runs low... So I can use sterilising drum as whole, without false bottom.

You can build a separate boiler and pipe the steam in but a float is pretty necessary regardless;
Unless of course you can baby sit the steamer for 24hrs straight.

PID isn't exactly necessary. As long as you have enough water to keep the element
submerged it can stay on for the entire cycle. If you dont mind the electricity use.

As for the wattage usage question...

PIDs can be programmed to perform a number of functions however the one's you would be interested in have to do with:

1. bringing your substrate up to temperature,
2.reducing power to element to preserve energy consumption while maintaining temperature,
3.turning your element off once your cycle is complete.

They can also be programmed to turn on your flowhood, sound alarms or any number of other things that are probably not necessary.

You'd want a higher wattage element so that your overall cycle time is shorter but this isn't necessary. If your sterilizer is going to be out in the elements with rain and snow then you'll never get up to temp with a single low watt element during the fall/winter.

Look at Caps' post about his bare bones steamer and you'll see that you can get by with very little under the right conditions. The benefit of a PID/power cycling etc is that it dials in your cycle for  maximum automation, safety  and repeatability.

If you don't have a water line to hook to your steamer you can definitely have a drum reservoir filled and hooked up with a pressure regulator for water supply. This will allow you to run a smaller volume of water in your steamer which will heat faster, the float will ensure that even with a low working volume of water it won't boil dry or cold shock the system. Everything is automated with a heat probe running to the PID so you can confidently walk away without worry of boiling dry or starting a fire.

You still want a small false bottom/rack to allow steam to freely enter the bottom of the sterilizer.

Which rice I should buy for PF TEK?
I found the vermiculite but struggle with the rice.

Those look way wet to me. It’s weird cuz usually the dark flesh means too much water but they grew pretty normal. Maybe they just would’ve been giant with less hydration.

Just remember all the water they need is already inside the block. The misting is just to keep it humid really.

Perhaps they feel stronger because they’re hollow? Same amount of actives in less material, so weight-based doses have more actives in total? Just noticed the hollow stem during harvest and wondered.

My maz have always been tiny but super dense. The close up in my signature is a maz clone that was tiny but the densest tub I’ve ever had.

I couldn’t believe how big they can get when I saw other grows.

Thanks I didn't know that. For the second flush I added way less water and they look a bit healthier.  I think I started adding less water after I saw how dark the head is. At first I thought it would be an abort but it started growing again.

Hey guys, I'm sorry to change the subject but is there a down side to using a loop to swab a print rather than pressing the whole head on foil?  I am going to try out the clone-spore-clone-etc process when it's time, but have never taken a print before.

(General cult discussion question I think)

Thanks Caps P9 and others for all that info on steamers. Your right I'm very uncertain of my technical capabilities indeed. Also we have to use 240 volts here.. but I have a buddy who used to make custom gear for industry clients and whi has been repairing washing machines and such for 35 years. I'll go talk to him and pay him a few euros to make me one.

A big ass pc from the US would also be like 300,- for even a presto with
all the crazy import taxes and what not. Provided they'll start up export again some day..
