Why are side pins such a problem?

I'm really pleased with how my first grow is going using bods unmodified mono tub tek. Judging by other pics here by vets, my pinset is respectable but not record breakIng. With my first flush underway I've noticed quite a few side pins. I was wondering what problems these pose for the grow? Is there anything that can or should be done at this point with the side pins? Thanks for help in advance.

There’s nothing wrong with them, it’s just an aesthetic thing really. They’ll grow fine even smashed against the tub.
The main concern should be that it might indicate your surface conditions aren’t great. I’ve had a couple types that just pin all over no matter what but 90% of the time a good surface will stop side pins.

good to know... I thought it was entirely the microclimate on the sides... did not know it had anything to do with overall surface conditions

They're both part of it. They choose to fruit where conditions are best.
If conditions on top are terrible and the sides are just ok, it's gonna side pin. If the top is perfect and everything else is just ok, it's gonna fruit on top and a little on the sides.
I haven't sat any mycelium down and asked, but that's what it seems like.
They'll fruit anywhere, just provide the conditions!

I'm actually good at monitoring sub conditions from having a 'feel' with drying weed. But this is good info!

They are nearly impossible to harvest without damaging the substrate. They can kinda fuse in there a bit.

Thanks again to those that chimed in. Surface conditions may not have been ideal as I have opted to not mist at all in fear on introducing contams. I know now what I've got to do...

Close proximity with wall of tub/chamber. This = ideal growing conditions for fungi.ise liner on next attempt.

You don't need a liner but they can help with side pins and removing the sub from larger tubs. Attention to detail when making the subs and during their life is the most important part.
And to M, don't be afraid of contamination once you've spawned your tubs. When you do that you're already introducing a bunch of contaminant spores but your mycleium is everywhere and already growing so it's OK. As long as your spawn was clean anyway, if it's not then whatever will happen will happen regardless.
