Some jars colonised before others
    #26789967 - 06/28/20 02:18 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hi all,
First time post and first time cultivating.
Out of 8 jars I have 4 completely colonised. 3 half colonised and one with nothing. Im going to be doing a shoebox using coco coir. I was wondering can I wait for the half colonised jars (prob another week) or will it do damage to the ones fully colonised and also is there a minimum number of jars that I need for the shoe box if im using a one cake to 1 jar full of cococoir ratio. OI think there is a minimum depth for the substrate in the box?

Appreciate any advice.

It would help if you state what's in the jars and how big they are? Quart? Pint? PF-Tek? Grain? Also, did you lose any jars to contams?

The "half colonized" jars could be "half contaminated" with bacteria. Do the uncolonized parts look slimy? If they do, you want to compost those and keep them away from your shoebox.

I would have expected 4 jars is enough to colonize a shoebox. Or is they really small jars and a really big shoebox?

Thanks for the reply. 1/2 pintjars with vermiculite, brown rice flour, golden teachers. All perfect, no contamination. I was super careful. I think the number of spores in my syringe was on the light side.shoe box 6 x 11".
