How do you ground your sterilizing drum ?
    #26789868 - 06/28/20 01:39 PM (3 years, 6 months ago)

Hello.

Im wondering how to ground my drum.

Ive read older posts and RR says to ground it at the top of the drum above water level on a bolt. And other growers seem to simply not ground it.

Id like to do it the safest way possible, also the drum will be outside.

Thank you.

Plan to win or you are planning for failure. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it. Just figure out the solution. Even if that means banging your head on a wall until the solution oozes out of you.

You definitely want to ground the drum. Too many things can go wrong and if no ground is hooked up to the drum. You or someone else will become the ground and to say the least, it will not be good for whomever becomes the ground.

This is the nicest way to ground the drum. It doubles as a cover for the electrical...

Brew hardware has the best elements also they are completely stainless other elements the base is not stainless and they rust out at the base.

If you are using a steel drum I would suggest mixing VM&P NAPHTHA with silicone and painting the drum with it. This will make your drum last for a very long time. No need for stainless.

Another option is just buying a gallon of GacoRoof 100% Silicone Roof Coating I got it for about $45 shipped from camping world.

This is something else you might want to get. It makes putting your probe in much easier. If you are using a PID. I would also suggest a 5500 watt element...

To put the probe in drill a hole in the side of the drum just low enough so you can get the lid on.
