So, I have had this Trich for a few years now,and it just wont grow. I'm so good with other plants, but I can't grow most all cacti for crap! What do you guys think the problem could be, too much sun? It's super hot here, and it get full sun most all of the day. I really love this cactus, and I'd hate for it to perish, can you guys help me diagnose it's problems?

idk to hot or maybe soil gets to wet? but idk..
you could take a cutting, the top half looks healthy, then if the bottom pups, you would soon have 3 cactis..
also ive had success with sick cacti by planting in the ground, some reason they love being in the ground and usually recover.

I bet it is a mixture of too much sun, and wet humid conditions. It's the only thing that I can think of. I reckon that soil mix isn't exactly what cacti would want to be growing in either.
I would love to put it in the ground, but, but my climate wont allow it. It's super rainy, wet,and cold during the winter, and only opuntia's can handle it.
Maybe I'll re-pot it and put it in partial sun later on.
Thanks for the reply though mate

It looks like heat/sun stress to me...also looks like it could be a little thirsty.

Head / sun, or the roots inability to breath. I have a pereskiopsis graft I pulled up because the scion was going yellow and the pereskiopsis leaves white because of a lack of air.

Sun and Heat stress would be one factor.
The biggest factor is your soil. It's wood chip and I bet the pH is so far out of whack that there's major nutrient lock out going on.
Re pot into fresh soil with correct pH. Place in a shadier position. It should recover.

Yeah, I'm about to go move it now! What kind of soil do you recommend? Also, that soil is actually a mixture of sand and cheap potting soil. the cheap potting soil had way to much wood chips in it, so I evened it out with sand and a better potting mix. It looks like straight wood chips, but that's just what floated to the surface when it got watered. Thanks for the replied fellas, I hope to have this guy looking as good as all yours some day

Any premium soil mix should be fine.
Sift out the large wood particles and never use sand in your mix. You can but only use coarse sand. Most people don't understand what coarse sand is and that's why I say not to use it. The example of why is above.
Use things like scoria, pumice, perlite instead.

Ok, thanks karode I have since moved it out of the sun,and I'll go grab a better potting mix and some perlite next time I go shopping. Hopefully I'll post a photo of it in a couple of months, and it will look great, fingers crossed
