The local Southside neighborhood was the scene of a major confrontation between student protesters and police in May 1969. A mural near the park, painted by Berkeley artist O'Brien Thiele and lawyer/artist Osha Neumann, depicts the shooting of James Rector, who was fatally shot by police on May 15, 1969.
While legally the land is the property of the University of California, People's Park has operated since the early 1970s as a free public park. Although open to all, it is often viewed as a daytime sanctuary for Berkeley's low income and large homeless population
would like to see more of this going on everywhere: Food Not Bombs Food Not Bombs' ideology is that myriad corporate and government priorities are skewed to allow hunger to persist in the midst of abundance. To demonstrate this (and to reduce costs), a large amount of the food served by the group is surplus food from grocery stores, bakeries and markets that would otherwise go to waste

You ever heard of Feeding America? My boss donates to them a couple 3-4 times a year. There's a reefer trailer that one of our OTR drivers brought in from California sitting in our yard right now filled with oranges. The morons in California stacked the pallets 3 high and about 1/3 of those pallets fell over on the way back here to Michigan, some of it is damaged and the Costco distribution center where they were supposed to go refused the load, so now my boss has to take the loss (I guess it's not really a complete loss if he's donating it and someone in need gets it). My boss is going to have one of us local drivers bring them to the Feeding America bank in Comstock Park, MI sometime this coming week.
Last fall I went to a Pepsi plant in Munster, IN and brought back a truckload of 20oz bottles Aquafina water that my boss paid for and donated to Feeding America
As a side note - you really should think twice before you go blocking highways and stopping trucks, you never know what they're carrying and where it's going

Quote:
Dmonstrations against police violence Monday marked two years since Portland State officers shot and killed Jason Washington, a 45-year-old Black father and Navy veteran. Washington had confiscated a friend’s gun outside a campus bar. Video footage from that night shows the gun was holstered until Washington fell as he tried to prevent a fight. The gun was in his hand as he stood up. Two officers ordered him to drop the gun, then fired on him as he appeared to be walking way. As Washington’s vigil came to a close just before 9 p.m., demonstrators also started to gather outside the downtown Justice Center. Protests have continued there every night since May 28.

'femboy hooters' 'be gay do crime'
Which phrases do u think are gonna speak loudest for the activist community and their intentions
Not that I necessarily disagree with doing shit just cuz fuck it lets burn shit who cares, and not that I necessarily disagree with using these apathetic anarchist types to the benefit of real change, but there something to be said about the casual cultural permeation that's occurred due to the 'mainstream' effect of the protests and just the nature of modern media coverage and society and yada yada. Really saturated the shit out of this movement and made it almost overnight became more of a fashion trend than any other protest 'era' in history. I think it is a really interesting case study on modern humans and modern society and has very wide-reaching implications for the future of politics/culture. Will have huge waves on the movement's impact, how it is covered by historians, and on the future of protesting in general.
Again not to take any sides, but social media has allowed propaganda to become the name of the game for both the establishment and the revolution. Never before has it been this easy to spread propaganda to the point where the cultural molding done by the hands of the counter-movement becomes stronger than that of the state's. Very big shit if you ask me. A significant turning point.

Most of these people would see a bigger and better change in their life simply from having a better perspective and some ethics. But that's the hard way out.
