have you ever started eating better and taking care of your body?
    #26786072 - 06/27/20 12:10 AM (3 years, 6 months ago)

how did you start? a specific diet, or just healthier choices in general? was it difficult to start and did it get easier? how do you stay motivated?

as for myself, i never really think about what i eat and drink, but i think i need to. i always told myself that just before i became fat, i would do something about it and just be free until then. the point seems to have arrived when i need to nip this beer gut in the bud. i wonder if seeing results can be translated directly into motivation to keep up the healthy lifestyle.

have a good one, shroomery:skol:

Yep.

Took the wellbeing of my body and mind on my own hands. Ditched pharma. Started keto. And yoga.

Weightloss is pretty good motivator, getting in shape is NICE and addicting.

With tobacco the amount of tar I purge from lungs when stop smoking is pretty good motivator.

Cutting sugars, cutting alcohol, eating less, being more active. Go for runs, walks, learn to climb, download Pokรฉmon go, take the dogs for a walk. It doesnโ€™t have to be a chore. Fasting also helps but has to be done smartly.

Yuuup. I've dabbled over the years. One positive thing about corona is that I have more time on my hands, so cooking and working out are like..two of the biggest ways I spend time right now besides sleeping and working :okay:.

This week I've been mega tired and have been slacking a little and I feel like the lack of exercise compounds the tiredness, so I'm eager to get back in the groove - overall I am just a much happier, more positive person with significant exercise in my life - doesn't solve everything, just makes coping with it much easier.

Cut out the beer too, or at least cut down significantly - I'm sure you'll see more results if you just cut it out for a bit, and your body will thank you - but moderation is a good end game too. Some of those craft beers are like 250 calories a bottle. Adds up fast.

I started with Intermittent Fasting with a OMAD (One Meal a Day) and lost like 10 pounds (from 220 to 210)but then stalled out, I would gain and lose the same few pounds, then I found the snake diet which is a fasting focused life style and started doing longer fasts with the average fast being 72 hours, I did this for months and dropped from 210-170

then last September I got really bad insomnia for a month, so I dropped the fasting because some people claim it contributes to sleep loss, that didnt help with the insomnia but I went back to eating all day every day from September to February and my weight went back up to 200ish

when I noticed my weight was at like 200 I started doing some 72's in February, then Lent was coming up, I decided to fast for the entire Lent, from the end of February to mid April, I started the fast at 195 pounds at the end of February and was 167 in April for Easter

when I broke the long fast within a week I immediately gained like 5-7 pounds, I think that was water weight, but I went back to eating all day every day April to June I was 180, I didnt feel like doing any long fasts any more so I adopted a 40 hour fast routine during the week and a 16:8 intermittent fasting schedule on the weekend

so for the last month I havnt been eating on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and I have dropped about 10 pounds (back to 170), this feels like the most sustainable routine I have followed so far, no long fasts but am still losing weight, I can always eat tomorrow

I still eat a lot of junk when I eat, I really have to clean up my diet, I have tried to start keto twice, but cant really stick with it, think the next thing Im going to try is paleo and the only carbs I will eat will be from like potatoes and yams, maybe that will be easier then strict keto

Just buy a big ass bag of carrots, big ass bag of precut washed celery and big ass thing of hummus. Put all the random cabinet spices and olive oil into the hummus. I seen my over weight friend chowing down on those carrots with hummus like it was bacon because it just works . Its inexpensive, lasts a long time in fridge and you get really used to it just out of the convenience, and then you're like 'fuck it, I can do this forever.

Taper the carbs down with time. Otherwise it can be shock to system and the graving can be so bad that you end up eating shit because bloodsugar drops too much.

As veggie go with things like broccoli, coliflower, spinach, cucumber etc. The green ones usually contain least carbs.

Even in strict induction period of keto you can eat 1 kg of those.
And 0.5kg per day is minumum imho i you dont want to rip your self new ass hole because constipation.

Just push trough the first week, Your reward is waiting for you!

Yes, around 11 years ago I quit weed and started doing Yoga and running

Started to eat more healthy. Went from 106kg to about 88kgs in about 18 months

Have had some ups and downs since then but in general embraced a more active and healthy lifestyle

You dont even need to be ripped to feel super good just to be active. A physical state where you can just randomly go for a half hour run instead of collapsing after 5 minutes is awesome.

Apart from the sports I do I try and move as much as possible thoughout the day. Always take the stairs, walk to get groceries, lift a box or two at work instead of taking a trolley

I started after a really strong mushroom trip. During the trip it became apparent that I needed to make my health a greater priority.

Good habits persisted for ~1 yr, with regular workouts and good dietary choices leading to dramatic improvement in mind and body.

Big piece of advice: GET A RICE COOKER.

They are like $20-40 appliances, so they won't break the bank.

As I just said to another member who ordered one in the Culinary Arts forum:

Quote:

Seriously, no-effort restaurant quality rice is sooooo convenient.

It does lentils, it does Chia seeds, awesome.

Know what fastfood is?

one part rice, two parts water, block of fish, veggies, all in the pot, half hour or so later, rice ready, veggies and fish steamed, stir in some Kikkoman, Sriracha, sesame oil and add fresh garlic and pow!

Healthy food with the convenience of fastfood!

Something good to know: White Rice is NOT fattening, its what you do with it. If rice were fattening, the developing world would be obese.

We use our rice cooker a couple times a week minimum. Its so much easier than cooking in a pot

Thanks Asante

You have improved my life two times this year already. Should have gone with you on the bitcoins

For me cutting most carbs worked best

Not to toot my own horn but right before your time was the Gold Train where we told people to stack up to the brim on $600 gold and it became $1800 gold :rainbowcloud:

A lot of Shroomerites made a good buck on that.

Qman and I were strong allies in that, very different in politics but gold speaks to all directions :awegold:

Geokills has been spearheading crypto long before I and did much better in it than I. I made a dollar out of 20 cents but he was way earlier and way more closely on that game. I kinda fumbled crypto compared to what could have been, but I had my epic successes and even gave a member a hot tip that made him make $20k or so overnight, for which he even rewarded me richly :smile2:

Our Money Matters forum is one to keep an eye on, there regularly are lucerative bandwagons there, like investing in legalized cannabis infrastructure. If any of us discovers one, we announce it, it gets peer reviewed and those who see bread in it hop on.

Life is so fleeting and short, yet we have so many arguments in it.

One way we can help the Shroomery Unite is to extend a well intended and well worded olive branch at those among us we are at odds with, to apply medicine to the wounds on both sides.

We are all weathering the storms of our lives.

Let us weather the storm together, united.

As most Americans, I make resolutions that do not last long.  But about 12 years ago, I was a vegan for a full year.  I was the thinnest and healthiest I had ever been in my adult life.

how did you start?
I had gotten involved with and moved in with one of the sexiest and amazing women I had ever met.  She was interested in going vegan and joined her in this effort.

a specific diet, or just healthier choices in general?
Vegan diet, quit smoking weed and cigarettes and started to work out.

was it difficult to start and did it get easier?
It wasn't that difficult as far as the vegan diet, except for giving up cheese, and back then the cheese alternatives were super yucky.

how do you stay motivated?
By being able to live with and make sweet love to one of the sexiest and amazing women I had ever met.

It starts with a decision  but really there were some significant things happening in my life that motivated me to start changing things about myself.

Quote:

Nothing specific at first. A good way to start is to take out sugars from your diet. Cutting out sugary drinks by itself should net you some very positive results. While you're dieting you want to do some research on nutrition. The more you know, the better you understand what it is you're putting into your body.

Quote:

I hit the ground running, but only because I was very motivated to do so. It got better because I was seeing results and wanted to keep seeing them.

Don't laugh but I started Weight Watchers a few weeks back based on a friend's recommendation and it's been great so far. I'm in the same boat where I got to the point where I realized I should start trying to lose weight for real because it's not bad now, but keeps creeping up and the longer I let it go the harder it will be to lose.

I've tried calorie counting in the past but it makes me feel like I can't eat things I want. Food becomes a negative thing instead of a positive thing.

WW has a points system where a bunch of healthy things like fruits, veggies, low fat meats (chicken and turkey breast, all seafood), beans and lentils, eggs, and fat free greek yogurt all consume 0 points. I've turned it into a game where I see what meals I can make totally out of 0 point foods. Then I can save my points for things like alcohol, which I've cut back on but still want to enjoy, and carbs and sweets now and again. Now I'm thinking of eating healthy for 1 or 2 meals to trade for something I want to eat on the third meal, which makes it nicer than feeling like I'm denying myself constantly. Plus I never have to be hungry, can always snack on a banana or apple or some other 0 point food.

I've lost about 8 pounds in a few weeks and I feel confident I can keep it up.
