The parts where he delves into long lists of this lineage or that lineage can be a bit confusing or cumbersome, but I really enjoyed the rest of the story, especially his use of a Sound/musically based creation myth in the beginning to illustrate how everything came to be from Iluvitar and the rebellion and ya da ya da.
As a whole the book reminds me of the Bible and then some - but better in some ways. Wanna start a LOTR’ religious cult with me and try to become the #1 world religion?

Nothing to add here, except as with bible I stopped at the list of lineage
And I love Tolkien but Silmarillion was too slow 20+ years a go. Will have to read it again, till end this time.

Minus the first name or two on those lineage benders he goes on - just speed read at full throttle through those parts - bc not knowing Galadriel’s 5th cousin’s wife’s niece won’t hurt the story much at all. There’s a lot of allegory strewn throughout the various mini stories contained within the larger story - and that’s what you really want to sink your teeth into. It’s been +/- 10 years since I’ve read it and I’m now tempted to crack it open again, thanks

iirc the silmarillion was still a WIP that his son published after JRRT died. it was not meant to be read like that
