Georgia ID Request
    #26785059 - 06/26/20 03:18 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi all! I found these little guys in an open but shady field at a park.  I was intrigued because while I did not believe them to be active, I was wondering what caused the black spots on the caps (circled in photo below).  We've had a lot of rain and most of the mushrooms I found appear to be waterlogged and falling apart.  I thought maybe the dark spots were clumping of spores (is that a thing?) caused by water, as opposed to legit bruising.  I got them home and let them dry out a little before attempting a spore print, but after 12+ hours they still had not deposited any spores.  Thoughts? Sorry if there's not enough info. Thank you!

Habitat:
Fertile, grassy soil. Shaded, but open field. Northeast Georgia.

Gills:
Brown to black.  I don't believe they were attached - it was hard to tell with them being so water-logged.

Stem:
3-5cm long x 1mm wide.  White near top, more tan toward the bottom.

Cap:
1-3cm in daimeter, caramel colored center, brownish grey, striate, black spots (can't tell if staining or due to being very wet).

Spore print color:
Appear to be black.  Attempted spore print and after 12+ hours, no spores were deposited on the surface.

Bruising:
Not sure if spots on cap are bruising or maybe clumps of spores due to heavy rain?

Thanks Cham. That’s what I was leaning toward because of the black spotting, but wasn’t sure if that was just some side effect of being water logged. The little clumps were all over the field and they were fun to spot.
