A more recent vid on mushrooms and the psychedelic experience. Pretty much a lot of what most already know but hey; its a more recent one so, enjoy.

Interesting, but only about 5 minutes in the remainder is from a Gaia presentation and off the bat the guy is giving some incorrect information.
It is true that Psilocybe Cubensis grows on cattle dung, however, according to Paul Stamets, most species (the vast majority) of psilocybin mushrooms do not grow on dung. Obvious example are the woodlovers, and the most widespread Psilocybe Semilanceata grows alongside meadowgrass.
The specie consumed mainly by the Native American cultures was Psilocybe Mexicana.
Yet this video is putting forth some connection between ancient people and cattle worship and linking that to tripping. I'm not too familiar with cattle worship outside of India, not saying is wasn't more widespread. But the consumption of psychedelic mushrooms generally was from species that did not grow on dung, as that was considered dirty.
We need to be careful with videos like these because they aren't peer reviewed, and while well intentioned most often, the creators often speak with conjecture and assumption that is stated as researched fact.
The video is well worth watching and presents many interesting points, I just urge people to also do their own research and not accept everything on a Youtube video as fact.

Amen.
TLDW:
Video also goes over stuff that I’d imagine those here who have browsed the internet long enough about psychs have already come across - some history, research, and facts & myths etc. That’s the gist, More or less. Some factual and some not so much.

Oh it's that stoned ape theory stuff from McKenna. On the other hand, cubes are the most common psilocybe and found around the world

Well, I just got to the point someone else qwestioned about "if done irresponsibly will atrophy our inner faculties". Another what? Atrophy being the wrong verb, and a vague message regardless.
Edit: It seems they are trying to make a comparison to what can be achieved through meditation and similar practices without drug use, and then still describing drug use as negative in comparison. The statement doesn't make sense because they are trying to accomplish two contradictory things simultaneously. Both elevating psychedelic use to confer the same benefits as meditation, while describing it as inferior. In my opinion, psychedelics can provide similar benefits as meditation, but they are not interchangeable.
-------
InnerWisdom, yes it is the stoned ape theory in general, but McKenna was much more well researched in the indigenous people and their practices, where this introduction was sloppy in comparison.
Also, Ps. Cubensis is the most common artificially grown psychoactive mushroom, it is not at all the most common naturally occurring one. Ps. Semilanceata is the most widespread by far. Cubensis is only popular because McKenna (or the McKenna brothers) realized how easy it was to grow artificially and provided the original instruction on how to do so, later popularized by the PF Tek.

Oh I thought since cubes grow naturally in Asia, Africa, and the americas at least. I can believe semilanceata being the more common one easily

Cubensis is widespread still, but does as widely as we'd suppose, check out this map:

So that may not be 100% coverage, since I assume the Transkei variety we know comes from South Africa which is not shown on the map, but that is the only African origin I know of.

Wow good thing I put a disclaimer, holy shit,,,,,
"A more recent vid on mushrooms and the psychedelic experience. Pretty much a lot of what most already know but hey; its a more recent one so, enjoy."
I will make sure to put, "entertainment" in the header if I waste my two minutes time here again. I understand though, a lot of people look at a onion and never bother to look deeper into it. Ill give ya that. I'll just put the hour long seminars next time for the folks who don't have the drive to look deeper into claims that inspire closer examination.
I apologize, I sometimes forget how bat shit crazy and incapable of critical thinking many have devolved to causing them to take everything at face value.
Sorry for the impression of offending, being slightly offended but I should be hardly surprised anyways with the polarity and encouraged offence these days.
