blue oysters with white caps

Hello, I am a 1st time mushroom grower. I am starting with blue oysters because I heard there the easiest for starters. While it has been going ok I am having the problem, that the caps for the blue oysters are white and I cant figure out why.
I am sorry if this question has been answered before.

It's been a while since I've grown oysters, but it looks like they're lacking FAE. No idea about the color though.

Brighter light will give you better color. As stated above you need FAE. Whenever oysters have long stipes they need increased FAE. Exchanging the air 3 to 6 times an hour is a good start. Also do not uncover the top just make a slice from corner to corner preferably on the bottom of the bag.

Ok cool, thank you. I will look into more lighting and increasing air flow. Do you have pic of your set up? Also should I put another bulb at the top or at the bottom of the bag?

I think I may have confused you saying slice the bottom of the bag. What I mean by that is you colonize your bags with the open part of the bag on top but when you fruit you press out all the air in the bag flip the bag over and slice the bottom of the bag and you fruit with the slice on top. The reason you do it this way is you want the bag tight against the sub try not to lift the bag when you slice you only want that tiny slice exposed to fresh air. Doing it this way will stop you from getting fruits inside the bag that will not grow properly. You will also get bigger fruits this way. If you want more color just have a bright light on the mushrooms.

Light can help as mentioned, and I agree FAE is severely needed there, but to your original question - the biggest reason they're not blue is the temperatures you're growing them at. Blue oysters are a cold weather strain, growing them at almost 80F is going to make them very pale. They prefer lower 60's F. They will grow fine in warmer temps but you're never going to get a blue color, maybe pale grey if you're lucky.

Thanks for all the help, unfortunately the blue oysters still didn't get enough FAE. For the next batch I got a 2nd 20-60 gallon aquarium air pump to go with the 1st air pump marina 100. My next question is how do I bring down the temp of the ecosphere?

Wait, is the only air the mushroom are getting from those two air pumps? If so you can forget it you will get the same results. You need to be exchanging the air completely 3 to 6 times an hour. Those little air pumps are doing absolutely nothing. You need an exhaust fan pulling out the air and a hole in the tent for fresh air to be pulled in when the exhaust fan is on. You need a fan to pull 20 cubic feet of air out a minute and leave it on for 1 minute because that tent is around 20 cu ft if you get a fan that pulls 40 cu ft then leave it on for 30 seconds and so on. it is better to get more FAE then not enough as long as you can keep the humidity up.

Or if you wanna do it the lazy way, you can get away with unzipping the door all the way on the tent, and placing the oyster block right in front so it's almost open-air, that's what I used to do in winter.

I forgot to mention a circulation fan will help by not letting stagnate air build up around the mushrooms.

Thank you, I got a fan to cycle the air and gonna try the open the tent more. Also I got a disk fogger, that came with the ecotent kit that helps keep the humidity high. Is that good enough or do I need a stronger one?

You mention like 3 things there so I am not sure what you are asking. Are you asking about the fans or the fogger? If your fan is strong enough or you leave it on longer you will not need to open up the tent. Only open the tent if you can not get enough air with the fan.

Sorry if that post was a bit confusing. I am asking about the fogger and seeing if this fogger is good enough

I doubt one fogger will be enough but you don't say how big the tent is from the looks of it I would guess you would need 3 of them but I don't use those foggers they don't last. I have a high-pressure system to create fog. Check my signature. High pressure is probably going a little far for you right now but you never know maybe in the future you might want to get rid of the pond foggers.

If you stick with the pond foggers check this out...
The way you have it looks like it would be a pain to keep filling that with water.

Hey guys, I saw this post and wanted to chime in. I have the exact same ecosphere setup. With everybody saying the problem is FAE, does anyone recommend on how to modify the midwest grow ecosphere tent so it gets FAE? it has a fan on the bottom, the tent is about 3×5 ft. I guess we can manually open the front flap and fan, but who has time for that. I'd rather not cut holes in the tent, but maybe doing that with filter patches over them or even without would be best..?

Thanks for all the help everyone, gonna do a complete overhaul of my ecosphere. 1st gonna move it from a closet to my downstairs. That helps with the temp, it drops the temp from 24.8C to 20C. I got some parts ordered and when I get the new set up all done, I will post it to see if I can do further improvements.
