Not abietis. Again.

This was my third attempt to grow Hericium abietis. I'm only on the second vendor but tried a fresh LC syringe from them after being assured their ID was correct and the error last time must have been mine (I was shown a picture of what appeared to be it growing for them).
As was true in both earlier cases, that is clearly Hericium erinaceus.

Differences in growth appear to correspond the media composition. Upper right is on white pine shavings (this is what the vendor said was used in the photo I was sent) supplemented with 20% wheat bran. Upper left is growing on white pine shavings and doug-fir fuel pellets (1:1). Lower right is on white pine shavings and doug-fir fuel pellets (1:2). That is obviously coralloides on the lower left.

I am tickled to learn that erinaceus grows on softwoods (just a few days slower than if on hardwoods) but I still want to locate a vendor who can competently make and maintain correct labels on their cultures.
If anyone knows of someone who sells this correctly identified please let me know or also if someone has a culture of it and wants to trade.

Indeed. They taste different than each other but I love the three I've eaten and suspect that to continue. I do still want to get to know any Hericium species that I have not. There is something about growing these mushrooms that I love just as much as eating them.
