Thoughts on buying a silencer/suppresor for a pistol?

Anyone buy a silencer/supressor for their pistol? Was it worth it? I'm surprised suppressors can cost more than the actual pistol

Completely unnecessary. Not actually effective, more aesthetic than anything. Puts you on atf radar. If your here on this website for anything related to its title you need to keep away from class 3 firearms and accessories for the goverment has legal grounds to audit your personal stores and property. Not worth it at all. They litterally make pop bottle caps adapters for.bottles that work as effectively if not better than an actuall steel suppressor.

The can/suppressor only costs more than the pistol because the government tried to unconstitutionally ban certain accessories and weapons. Once the red tape is gone and supply explodes with the new demand, the cost will come down. I have not bought a can yet but entertain it as soon as the NFA is done away with. If you do a lot of shooting and value your hearing, or night shoot, then it may be worth it to get a can. TMK, farms get priority on cans and form processing due to feral hog control.
Building a top quality suppressor isn't too difficult if you have a lathe, its also legal, provided you have a tax stamp for it before hand. Its a lot cheaper than buying one if you already have the lathe, otherwise, expect to drop several grand on a lathe. 3D printing is also an option, again, tax stamp.
If you use a can, use subsonic ammo as well. Fixed barrel pistol, otherwise you will need a spring for optimal functionality.

The only reason I'd get a suppressor is for a .22, if I've got to off a rat or a opossum, maybe a raccoon on my property. Some sub sonic ammo through a suppressed little thing might be worth the hassle for some people, but I can't see spending that much tbh. I feel like larger calibers don't benefit nearly as much from suppression, and if you've suppressed an AR or any direct blow back rifle that shit gets filthy as hell, not really my cuppa.
