How long do you let alcohol sit on a surface to sufficiently sanitize it?

Hey guys,
I did post this in AMU a couple of weeks ago but it's been quiet in there as of late.
So I've got an air fryer which I don't use. I'm wondering can I use it in my workspace to sterilise my kit, I.e. glass Petris & scalpels etc? It's goes up to 200°c but I can't quite tell, from looking online, if it maintains a constant temp or cycles it's temps up to 200°c and let's it drop. Anyone got any experience with on of these? It's a dead handy size for desktop sterilisation... if it'll do the job.

“Both alcohols, ethyl and isopropyl, can kill several bacteria in 10 seconds or fewer in the lab, including Staph aureus, Strep pyogenes, E. coli, Salmonella typhosa, and Pseudomonas species, some of the bad actors in infections. For M. tuberculosis, it may take as long as five minutes of contact.”
Any “items” going into my SAB (e.g. scissors, bags, jars) I spray well just before loading them in. I then walk away from the SAB for 10-15 minutes to let the air settle anyway. Since I don’t wipe anything, I’m not worried about any particles that settle on those items as the iso is present and active until it naturally evaporates. This also gives the iso time to work on any “tougher” bacteria that may be present.

I couldn't do that. I work in front of a flow hood. I'd get bleach sprayed all over me.

Cool, I've been waiting long enough then.

It is highly recommended that you don't spray bleach. The aerosol really irritates your eyes and lungs and mucous membranes. If you have to use it it is way better to wipe it on with a cloth or sponge or such.

I like the Lysol wipes, easy, surface stays tacky in the SAB. I spray my gloves with Iso and dry with a sterile paper towel.

Lol, you got me. I guess if you run a batch of paper towel in the PC you'd definitely have yourself some sterile paper.

Ya, I know, maybe I'll find the quote...but the idea is sterile is a byproduct of the manufacturing process. I won't argue how sterile because of the packaging...

I may sound pedantic, however I'm just trying to be accurate for the sake of clarity. If you spray your hands with iso and then wipe them with a paper towel (that isn't sterile or at very least sanitized) you're defeating the purpose of spraying them with iso in the first place.
It's similar to the conversation above, if you wipe a sterile surface with something non sterile then you are introducing contaminants. If you sanitize your gloves and then dry them with un-sanitized paper towel then you have defeated your initial purpose. Its is the opposite of sterile technique to reverse the process.

If sterile technique was trivial we wouldn't be talking about it, it literally defines our ability to cultivate. We're all free to wipe our gloves down with dog shit if it's what floats your boat, but good sterile technique is exactly that, it's either good or it isn't.

Not everything dies from the iso so I think the idea is to kill what can be killed in a reasonable amount of time and then wipe all the dead and possibly still alive stuff off of whatever surface you're after. You may very well bring some new stuff that's gotten onto the paper towel but the inside of the roll is probably fairly clean.
If i had the choice between plain water or hand sanitizer I'd take the water every time cuz it gets rid of a lot of the nasty that's hanging out.
As far as sanitizing things going in the SAB I really dont think it matters much either way. I wipe stuff sometimes and i don't wipe it other times. I do spray my hands or gloves and then rub my hands together to let iso evap. Then spray plain water on the walls and let it roll.
I'm eating some all white meat general tso's chicken. Its delicious
Phu I agree sterile tech is super important but i dont consider the sanitizing aspect part of sterile tech. Thats like optional prep. To me sterile technique is how you move and where you keep your hands etc. With awesome sterile technique you could indeed wipe your hands in dog shit and still work in the SAB successfully.

Found these stones in some 6 month old Tamp LC ( 2 Tsp rice flour in 600 Ml water) so they went on plates. Tossed a couple strait into rye. We'll see what happens...
