Hello
I will try this soon. Big thanks to Bod for the write up.
I just spent like 2 hours reading this whole thread and one question which was asked but never answered is what I have. Could you take a couple of cakes and fruit them into a small tub 12q with a small layer of verm below each cake (as if in a sgfc but without perlite)
I have 5 cakes and I will actually try this with two of them then post results. But just wanted to know if anyone had actually tried it.
Thanks

Well it works. :super: Second flush...

Thanks Bod

For the first flush i used CVG. 2nd verm only. 24 hour soak between. Regular misting to keep the verm moist. Even more often after pinning. Not sure if that was too wet looking at the colour of the stipes??? As always, just trying to learn

Just read through this entire thread and noticed you mentioned it would work for straight rye grain and was wondering if it would work for a straight grain such as wbs? If so would you recommend a dunk prior to first flush before casing with the vermiculite as straight grains seem to have a hard time retaining water just by itself. Or would it be sufficient enough from the misting of the vermiculite casing?

Thank you in advance!

Why would the grain choice even matter. Spawn is spawn

Ok thanks for the response! Would it be alright if I cased it and threw the jars inside a unmodified tub where the lid is just flipped (your other tek) rather than have a ziploc bag on each individual jar? I would assume it would serve the same purpose to keep it humid with fae but just figured the unmodified tub would help things look a bit more organized..

Thanks your teks have given me success before but just trying to learn and understand new approaches!

I have a cake that colonized slower than the rest and am thinking about using this Tek with it to at least pull some shrooms off of it. I have 2 questions:

1. Can I cut the cake in half to "double" the potential?
2. Can I put the half-pint cake into a 16oz jar to give it more space, or is it recommended to keep it in the halfpint?

Any insight is appreciated, as I don't want to mess this up and I only get 1 shot.

I'm at the step where I finished inoculating the spores into my jars and I've know put them into an airtight ziplock bag.  How often do I need to open up the bag to spritz them with water?  And how moist do i want it to be?

Amazing thread.  Been reading it for the past hour and I do not see any mention about those of us who are using SFD (synthetic filter disk).  There is no verm layer during consolidation in SFD jars.  Do we need to add a 1/4 inch layer of verm when ready to start the fruiting process?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys. Great write up, I've read it all at least 3 times and read just about every comment in this thread. After inoculation is there a big worry about open air contamination? I live on the coast, so we're averaging 90 degree days.  the only way place that I can get down to the ideal temp is in our bed room with the A/C constantly on. My wife loves house plant so they're all over the place in there. Would the jars be ok in there for the fist few weeks?(incubation period)
The picture is where I currently have my little babies.

Hey, Bod, first time posting! I read through the entire thread and the most agreed upon answer is four cakes, but I was wondering how many cakes per shoebox you use when doing a shoebox TEK?

Bod,

Congratulations on a great tek.  It's time to revive this thread.

I’m intrigued by the idea of fruiting straight rye spawn in the jar.  I don’t want to remove the lid and put the jar in a HC.  I want to fruit them totally in vitro.  The jar itself is the HC.

I’m considering putting about 2” of rye into a wide-mouth pint jar with a SFD lid and PCing it.  Then I’ll inoculate it with a tiny piece of agar.  After the rye colonizes and the myc begins to knot, I would unscrew the lid and leave it on; place the lid on tilted; or flip the lid to allow increased FAE.

If the shrooms grow so tall that they are nearly touching the lid, I’ll remove it and put a sandwich bag over the jar to maintain humidity and provide more room for vertical growth.

Has anyone tried this method?  Would it provide more than one flush?  Please advise.

Thanks.
