Re-inoculation
    #26782030 - 06/25/20 12:39 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Ahoy lads

I'm kind of new to this and I had a quick question about re-inoculation.
Some background: I first inoculated 3 BRF jars about 2 weeks ago and realized 2 days later that I made some stupid mistakes. (I only did the jars about half full and probably could have added more verm) I decided to just do a second batch, this time filling them all the way to the top and adding more verm using 3 wide mouth pint jar and a wide mouth half pint.

In both instances I sterilized using the boil tek for 90 minutes and inoculated like 4 hours afterwards when they were cool to the touch.

About a week later batch 1 took off and the little half pint jar also started colonizing. The other 3 pint jars in batch 2 showed no signs of growth. They still don't.

I recently lost one of the growing boys to what I believed was Trich and I'm monitoring another one for potential contamination as well. Both were removed from the others after the contamination was discovered. That leaves me with 1 jar from batch one and the little guy from batch 2 both chugging along without issue.

Anyway, to make up for my losses I am considering re-inoculating the 3 jars that failed to colonize, however its been a couple of weeks. Given that these 3 jars are from the properly produced batch 2 and were on the opposite side of the cabinet from the bad boys I'm thinking that the odds of them being contaminated are fairly low.

The main question: Should I boil these jars again or should I just go ahead and inoculate?

I would suggest making new ones to avoid being to dry after several weeks but boiling them again would dry them out even more.

Welcome :mushroom2:

If there is no growth after two weeks, why use the same jars that didnt work the first time?
There may be something wrong with the jar and you increase your chances of contamination by reusing the same jar and brf.  I'd start again, it's not that much work.
