I legit think kratom is the best anti-depressant
I've had doctors give me zoloft and prozac and all that shit but they all broke my dick and made me feel fucking far from ideal
I've talked to a lot of people who have used kratom every day for a decade (or close to it) with zero side effects
Pot used to be my favorite plant but now its definitely kratom

So long as you know that Its an opiate crutch and that it’s more likely than not that later in life you will regret it, and you don’t delude yourself about it, and know the real long term risks and potential short term benefits - then ok, it’s your life you get to decide what you do with it, for better or worse.
Also, Any one with a decade of use and zero side effects is a liar or delusional. Or are you not well read on the subject? Or naive? Or generalizing medical info and downplaying things to rationalize your use? I won’t pat pretense on the back when it comes to opiates & opioids, because pretty much every family I know in my life has had someone they know or love waste or lose their life to the stuff. And I know the story first hand.
The best anti-depressant is getting, being, and maintaining one’s overall health...everything else is more or less an inferior bandaid for myriad reasons.
Opiates & opioids & other downers are 9/10 antithetical to the psychedelic experience and any good that can potentially come from it.
That’s what I legit think.

Yes.

One million times yes.
No substance will ever substitute the effects of really, really, really hard work when it comes to feeling good.
OP I had a long affair with Kratom. It is EXTREMELY habit forming. And it does have its side effects for sure. I was eating over an ounce a day when I was heavily into it, and couldn't bear the thought of a day without...
I won't touch the stuff anymore, because I hate being addicted to things, and you will get addicted with an atitude like that.
Can't argue that it's great stuff though. So amazing a way to start a day.
Goddamit now I want some!

It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

I love the stuff for pain relief, and while it's habit forming it doesn't do it for me as a drug. I'd much rather pot, or alcohol, but alcohol gives me headaches now. It's only really good for the first couple of hours after a dose with little to no tolerance. I want some now because I'm talking about it, but I'm not in pain, so I'm not gonna take it. I've got enough addictions with my phone and coffee.

It’s not exactly heroin withdrawls to get off of it, but it is not fun. It has a way of sneaking up on you usagewise.

Its an opioid, you like it better because its an addictive drug with an atypical opioid profile.

I take about an ounce a day, I start the morning around 11am when my coffee is wearing off and take 5 grams every half hour till I feel the effects, then I dose a couple more 5g doses throughout the day
I used to get the best high in the world for about the first month or 2, then I just got an ok high for a while, then I started not getting noticeably high anymore
every month or so I catch a really good stone off of it, but the other 60/61 days I dont even really feel stoned, it just makes me feel better and clears my nose and makes it itchy
it gives me something to do though, I shouldnt drink cause im an alcholic (but kratom cut my drinking down to like once every few months, instead of few times a week, best effect its had on me) and I cant smoke pot cause it makes me crazy, kratom nice cause its subtle so I dont have mental problems from it
I dont plan to quit anytime soon, I tried twice in the past, both times I only made it 3 days, I didnt have any horrible withdrawal symptoms like some people report (but they are usually taking like 100g a day) but I had a unrelenting impulse to dose, one time I spent money to get cab to get my kratom on the third day, when I could have gotten a free ride the next day

You're going down a dangerous road man. Kratom isn't as bad as taking pharmaceutical opiates, but it isn't something you should take everyday unless you absolutely have to. And you don't have to, you choose to. You're taking it way too lightly and you should rethink your choice before you make your life far worse than it was before you started. Careful.

I've done a pretty significant amount of research and it seems to me that it's a lot safer than things like alcohol use every day or cigarette use every day or opioid pills every day

Its an opioid. You'll turn into an addict AND you will deteriorate. Look at the native area of use, its illegal in some of those countries.

it was illegal in thailand because it cut into the opium trade, and thailand recently legalized weed and kratom
that poster is right, its not nearly as harmful as alcohol or opiates, Ive taken it for 2-3 years and the only negative is that I impulsively dose everyday, but I have an addictive personality, I did the same with weed and alcohol for nearly a decade

I buy some kratom maybe once every 2-4 months and use it for about a week or so. I find it funny that so many people either act like its a miracle drug that cures depression and anxiety or something that will ruin your life, then again you see people like that with other drugs. For me its something thats easy to pick up once in a while and use for a few days and then leave for months. No cravings really, more like the day after you stop using it you're like "man today would probably be more fun if I had some kratom, but whatever its all good."
I would add that if you think you can use any type of opiod, even an atypical one that is less addictive than the regulars, daily or even weekly without negative effects, you're probably lying to yourself. I'm probably not ever going to take kratom again anyways after hearing that one of my friends recently had cholestatic liver damage from taking it. People say that liver damage from it is extremely rare, but it is so understudied that its probably just not worth risking it.

This beast has its own nature, akin to demonic even - spellbinding, or like Fools gold.
Sure Cigs will sap you over time and kill you slowly until you die a grueling death. Alcohol can do it quick or slow. But all 3 are highly addictive & cause physical & psychological dependence when active in the bloodstream long enough - like a enslavement that whittles down anyone that uses them long enough until there’s only a shadow of your former self remains, to varying degrees. But opioid use in any form beyond its appropriate medical niche is scientifically & medically known nowadays to be a sure way to hijack important brain function, which more often then not - leads down a path that leads to one of several stories we’ve all heard 1,000,000 times .
Sure it’s all relative...but how confident are you that you are not experiencing/displaying a cognitive bias whereby something or other is causing you to be unable to recognize your own incompetence, regarding how wise & knowledgeable you are on this subject? - Both experientially & intellectually ?
Are you willing to sell & exchange your natural evolutionary engineered Goldilocks state of homeostasis for opioid dependency and all the baggage, implications, limitations, and ramifications that it comes with?
The tale of the boiling frog comes to Mind, are you aware of that tale?

Kratom is habit forming but the side effects don't come close to pharmaceutical or illicit opiates like oxy or heroin. I can still take care of myself on kratom, while other opiates make it very difficult to do so. It's treated me well so far.

Same. At least for me it is.
Kratom has been a terrific medicine for me and the issues I have. It has helped me out more than any other plant/herb/drug.
Instead of being prescribed a benzo, adderall, and something like a SSRI....A couple grams of a leaf works just fine for me, and better than those pharmaceuticals and with much less side effects and with less potential for addiction/withdrawal....And WAAAAAY way cheaper.
Quote:
The Blind Ass said: So long as you know that Its an opiate crutch and that it’s more likely than not that later in life you will regret it
Are SSRIs a serotonergic crutch? Would you consider people that are prescribed anti-depressants to be taking a "serotonergic crutch" .
Are people that are prescribed adderall taking a "dopaminergic crutch"?
I find kratom to be quite effective for the reasons I take it more so than a SSRI, or benzos, or adderall would be...and with less side effects than those pharmaceuticals. There are many reasons why I'd rather use this leaf as a "crutch" instead of those pills.
Quote:
Also, Any one with a decade of use and zero side effects is a liar or delusional.
I've been taking kratom for about 8+ years now. No side effects at all . I get less side effects from kratom than I do from coffee. Some strains/varieties of kratom don't really vibe with me and I'll sometimes feel a bit jittery/light headed, but as far as major side effects or side effects resulting from my opioid receptors being lightly tickled every day I can't say I experience anything like that. Even my bowels move along just fine, never any constipation (I take a dump within 10 to 20 min after taking kratom just like I do after drinking coffee).
I am mildly physically dependent on it and I will experience some mild W/D if I go with out it, I am very aware of what it is I'm working with and I am fine with that...but the same thing happens to people that are prescribed SSRIs. I'd rather deal with 2 to 3 days of some mild W/D from kratom instead of dealing with the long stretched out tapering down of a SSRI and dealing with the brain zaps and muted/dulled down emotions/cognition that come along with it.
Same in regards to benzos.
I also feel kratom is loaded with anti-oxidants and other health benefits...I don't view kratom as just something that only tickles some opioid receptors. There is a lot going on in that leaf. I've noticed the quality/complexion of my skin has improved quite a bit after I started incorporating this leaf into my life.
I honestly feel that something might be "askew" with my endogenous opioid system...I've always been super sensitive to opioids and the smallest amounts of them completely turn me around and get me out of my head and make me more functional...Just like some folks serotonin system is inherently "askew", and just like some folks dopaminergic system is inherently "askew"....Taking tiny amounts of opioids helps me out tremendously. I don't take them to get loaded or nod, and I never increase my dosage (I've been taking the same dose of kratom for over 8 years now, never once have I increased the dose).
Nothing else helps me out like kratom does. It truly is a medicine for me.
At this chapter in my life kratom helps me keep my head up day to day, keeps me in motion and keeps me from slipping into deep depression and keeps my anxiety in check. When I get into a better situation in life I do plan on taking a break from it, but this leaf is something I plan on always having on hand for the rest of my life. The few times I have gone a few days with out kratom here & there over the past 8+ years that I've been taking it daily, I don't even get any cravings for it at all (even while I am experiencing some withdrawal)...The same can't be said when I've quit drinking coffee, for at least a week I literally could not stop thinking about brewing up and drinking a cup of coffee, I constantly had intense cravings/urges for coffee when I quit drinking it. I don't get any of that from kratom.

It has many different alkaloids....One is a partial opioid agonist, and another is an opioid-antagonist. While it certainly does have activity on opioid receptors it is quite mild and balanced. No full agonist and there is an antagonist in the mix.
If you look at the native area of use, it is comparable to people in Peru chewing coca leaves or folks in East Africa chewing khat. It is pretty benign stuff....The working class in that region where kratom grows native has been utilizing kratom for 1000s of years. If there were any serious health issues that come from kratom it would be quite obvious over there.
After how many years does one start to deteriorate?
I've been taking kratom daily for 8+ years now, I'm quite healthy. Actually a bit healthier than when I first started to use this leaf. Taking kratom before any sort of physical activity is lovely. Kratom gives me a ridiculous amount of natural/raw energy & stamina, actually more so than any other herb/drug by far. Kratom has not deteriorated me at all, it is actually quite invigorating from a physical stand point....and while I can't prove it, I genuinely feel this leaf offers benefits to one's health.

Well the choice is yours. Do you like to be forced to join the ride everyday?
If not, what have you tried?
You'd be surprised how much will power even the most stubborn mind has after it doesn't receive what it has been force fed for an extended period of time.
Instead of hanging around or chilling, letting your mind think of them ever so special yet impulsive feeding times, a new routine is a good way to go.
Working out and eating properly can do wonders.
Getting all the necessary vitamins through a varied diet and all them amino acids and that.
The body doesn't take long to get used to working out and pretty soon into it it starts to feel good.
Cutting sugar to a minimum as that'll just become another impulsive thing if that's your bag.
Waking up early, working out and eating a decent healthy breakfast, free from primates on the backiola, is a pretty decent alternative to an impulse.
This usually leads to being tired earlier in the evening, which will ensure a better night's sleep, which will lead to a better state of mind.
