Weird growth all over Agar plate

Hi,
I just did my first ever Agar transfer, and on one of my plates I ended up with this

which to me looks like mycelium but then again this is grow number one for me (although I have MS grain jars going). The other transfers have some growth, but not nearly this much. I might have rolled the Agar wedge all over the plate, making me think it might be mycelium. Is this contamination?
Thanks

If you rolled the wedge around that could indeed explain it. The problem is you won’t know if a actual contam pops up or is meshed in there with all that growth everywhere. The idea is that you know where on the plate you inoculated so everything else can be considered a contam.
It can take a bit to get used to handling a scalpel. A good way to practice is to make transfers between blank plates. That way if anything grows at all you know your movements need to be tightened up.

Yeah, this is what helped me a lot when I started agar, too. Really easy to notice and close the gaps in your sterile technique when you remove as many variables as possible and just practice transfers between clean plates.
Helped me get my hand steady at taking smaller transfers and at securing the transfer to the new plate so it doesn't move around, too. It's like the driving range of agar work

Awesome thanks. I've got a bunch of plates to practice with, so I'll get to work
