Stupid newbie question- PoHu on straw not pinning

25 days ago, I started my first straw log grow. Colonization seemed to go along steadily, but I'm stuck - there hasn't been any detectable progress in nearly a week. I'm growing in my garage, highs inside are 80-85, lows at night are 70-ish. RH has been around 50% lately. I've moved the log near a North facing glass door, and have opened the garage door a bit and another window for air flow. Is my RH to low to move forward? Temps too high? I can move things to the crawl space and add a lamp to lower the temp a bit but lose out on fresh air. Or maybe I just need to wait?

Sorry what is PoHu? Oysters?
Probably dry, remember you don't need airflow till AFTER you get pins. You could put a wet towel over it and keep the towel wet till it pins.

Yes, oysters. I'll try a towel over it. For some reason I thought I was needing lots of FAE in order to spur pinning. The moist towel will have the advantage of dropping the temperatures down a bit too, which should help, right?
Thanks!

Yep that should help as well.
Yeah you don't need FAE for pinning, just that nice little micro-climate of humidity

It's been 3 weeks of diligently misting the towel and 75-80 degree ambient temperature ( I finally turned on the a AC) I still don't have any pinning. No strange smells or anything - that would at least be progress of some sort. I've toyed with dunking it, but would hate do waste that much drinking water if it's not going to do anything, especially since I'm just spit-balling here. Should I just start over?

Then don't use drinking water
Got a hose?
or have you tried a cold shock?

Our tap water is pretty gnarly, and they try to make up for that with chloramine. They say it's potable, but if you leave a glass of it sitting overnight, you'll be left with sediment. The chloramine is what I'm worried about with mushrooms. You think they won't care?
I haven't tried a cold shock. Pop it in the fridge overnight? Maybe a cooler with some ice instead?

Ugh, good point with the chemicals... I wouldn't be worried about dirty water but that chemical I agree on avoiding. But, if it's that or toss 'em, maybe try?
Yeah a cooler with ice would work. I don't know anything about Pohu strain, but oysters usually don't need a cold shock, unless they're kings. Could work though who knows

I don't know if it's dry... I'm trying not to poke/prod/move it too much. I'm to new at this to know visually.
I remembered my neighbor has a well that I can get water from, I just need to wait for them to turn the pump on, probably tomorrow.

I collected rain water and submerged the log for an hour or so yesterday - pins like crazy when I woke up. This, combined with the beginnings of fruit in my struggling garden, has made for a great day for me. I've needed a "win" for a long time, thanks for all the help!
