Weird contamination?
    #26778549 - 06/24/20 06:54 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

A week ago, I inoculated 10 jars and 7/10 have in some kind of form developed this weird mold or contamination.

Is there a reason why it has developed like this? I steamed them all in a pot for 2.5 hours, sterilized the syringe's needle every 1-2 jars and kept them in a box. Before doing these jars, I also had 5/15 different jars develop this too a month ago.

It’s most likely coming from inside the syringe. When they collect spores all kinds of stuff goes with them.

You can make a paste from the brf and put a layer in a jar, steam it and then use it like agar if you want. Having clean mycelium makes a huge difference.

Contams could be getting in after inoculation. Is your verm layer dry and undisturbed? Are those lids air tight? If so, you may need to add GE holes (maybe you did and I just can't see them in the pic).

I did add a dry layer of vermiculite, yes. I only have four holes on top of the lid (which are exposed though), but the dry layer of vermiculite should be enough to reduce the contamination.
