Is this cobweb?
    #26777056 - 06/23/20 03:11 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi everyone!

I know cobweb is not very common, but I have a weird feeling about this, since it has covered some small pins or aborts (not sure if they are one or the other).

Should I spray some diluted hydrogen peroxide on this cake which is currently on it's 5th flush?

Thanks a lot!

5th flush is usually when these things start to contam. Hard to tell from that pic but if it's clearly growing over your pins then it's gotta be something bad. I doubt hydrogen peroxide will help but you can always try it just as an experiment.

Thanks for your answer!

There are actually a lot of pins that aren't being overgrown by this stuff. I will try the hydrogen peroxide thing.

Would the mushrooms from this flush still be safe to eat or should I just toss it if the peroxide doesn't work?

I'm thinking it might not be cobweb because it hasn't grown much since yesterday.

However, using hydrogen peroxide on a swab seemed to get rid of it after it fizzed.

What else could it be? Can mycelium overgrow small pins/aborts like on the picture?

There are a good amount of normal looking mushrooms growing as well. Would those be safe to eat?

Thank you

Sounds like you should be fine. I've never seen an inedible mushroom on this forum, not saying they don't exist but I think if a contamination has affected the mushroom then the mushroom will abort. If a mushroom looks healthy, I'd eat it, personally.

Thank you! Makes sense and I'm happy to hear that. I was worried the mold could somehow be hidden inside the mushroom, but that's probably my paranoid part speaking lol
