Plastic draws shoeboxes
    #26776919 - 06/23/20 02:11 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Just a thought... that these could be used as a stack of shoeboxes with polifilled holes. Substrate could be inoculated with grain, box covered with clingfilm, foam could be removed for misting. Maybe a a bilinear curtain hanging over the draw gaps.

I bought led bars to do that a few months back but changed my mind. Definitely would work though.

When I tried that it dried out because of all the gaps. Then I threw the big ol drawer cake outside and was shocked by explosion of shrooms

wouldn't plastic wrap prevent the drying?

Try it! That's not a bad idea. I think my ceiling fan was the culprit. Or just do shoeboxes

This seems like it has great potential... next time I see one of these units by the side of the road I'm snatching it

You could always put a trash bag over the whole thing to keep it from drying out while consolidating.

Ok so I got one....

Experimenting with cling film, I’ve stuck the rear section with tape just to see if it fits the slot.

Just ordered a wider cling film  450mm which Is wide enough to stretch over the top (width and depth)...
I intend to tape all four sides, but will make it easy to open and Close to mist.

As the draws are translucent enough light will get through as shrooms don’t need loads of light.

I have also ordered some clear bin liners to place over the top of the whole thing. I intend to cut a resealable door

When they start to pin about an two inches... I may remove the film completely and the bag so there is FAE.

The arrows point out the gaps between shelves are draws, these should suffice for FAE, like keeping a lid gap on a shoe box.

Will try one drawer first... will post updates for your amusement and criticisms. ✌🏼

I actually just saw someone using a very similar thing, it was working well, I don't think he even used cling wrap on top.

If you search for "plastic draws shoeboxes" you'll find my post where I told him about you. I forget which thread it was in but it was sometime this week.

I did use these as unmodded shoeboxes before and they are alright, but unfortunately the gaps were a bit wide between the boxes and they dried out too quickly. A workaround was to create a lid with some GE holes or just use plastic wrap.

I still think a trash bag over the top four the first 10 days is the way to go, then just mist daily. But I'm lazy lol

Cool...

Will see how mine go... will try one first.... mine are translucent not sure if that’s a problem. Will put a desk lamp behind them I think.

I will use cling wrap and then see what happens.
🤞🏼
