So in 14 days Houston is predicted to run out of ICU beds? I heard that they're already converting children's hospitals to non-covid adult hopsitals to free up space.
Hopefully morrow's doing okay down there. Seems like it's going to be a horrific few months, assuming they don't re-instate the lockdown or at the least mandate masks and get smarter about distancing/capacity laws.
Texas not only doesn’t mandate masks, local officials are not allowed to override statewide policy. Abbott is a fucking coward. He’s pretty much admitted now that things are out of control and everyone should be wearing masks but he doesn’t have the balls to order it. It’s unbelievable.

Just disqualify certain tests or groups of people. We already tried to scare the shit outta people these clowns aren't gonna listen to anything
The point is to cover up the extent of the outbreak, so leaders don’t look bad. China did it. Trump probably did it, some of the governors are doing it right now. It’s a lot harder to cover up positive test results than it is to just make it difficult to get tested in the first place.
Companies don’t want to test employees because positve results mean shutting down production lines.

MODERATION NOTICE:
One of the mission statements of the Shroomery is to stop the spread of dangerous misinformation. Initially this pertained to the substances we voluntarily put into our bodies, but COVID-19 is something that may involuntarily end up in the bodies of our members and their loved ones.
The media are a mess of propaganda and the Internet is a jungle which someone not versed in medical lingo and medical principles can easily get lost in.
Because some Shroomerites depend on this thread to help them make sense of the actual situation and what best to do - we will moderate this thread more strictly now and will issue post deny's to the more disruptive members.
Its OK to differ in opinion but we must ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION here.
The preferred moderating action will be a Post Deny for repeat offenders.
This very important and initially highly information dense thread is devolving into a dumpster fire, to the detriment of all who have a vested interest in this thread to be a collective voice of reason in making sense of what to do in these times.
Lets drop the offtopic, the conspiracy theories and the assigning of blame and focus on purifying our understanding, each by interacting with those voices in the discussion we have confidence in.
This thread may SHORTEN THE R.I.P THREAD OF 2021.
Let's NOT mess that up.

No unpleasant facet of human behaviour surprises me any more.
It doesn't stop me from thinking that some people are uncaring assholes that I'd rather have nothing to do with though.

Some interesting info from the UK about the numbers they're seeing facing long-term issues. I haven't looked at the actual studies yet so not sure how accurate the article is, but hospitals in Boston are definitely seeing a lot of patients with after-effects

One in three patients who recover from coronavirus could be harmed for life, with long-term damage to their lungs, as well as chronic fatigue and psychological disturbances, research suggests.
Experts said there was growing evidence that the virus could cause persistent or even permanent trauma, including impairment to the brain and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Shit is getting real where he works (Tx) and this combined with some unsavoury content here on the Shroomery made him decide to walk out here.
I hope he'll be back but he's going to have his hands full professionally.
He was an asset to this topic, plain and simple.
We'll have to make due.

1 year ago we couldn't attract enough Americans here for work or pleasure.
For the foreseeable future it would be political suicide to let you in for ANY reason...think about this for a bit.
As the world does or does not get a handle on this the social pariahism on a wide scale is something that's real and about to unfold.
The otherness that will come from this will have repurcussions we are not talking about.

Americas is a big country with many lines drawn. The reality is those lines are not usually physical and are almost impossible to fully police.
As you will see as hotspots flare up you will have exodus and spread. If its on your landmass its coming. It takes an entire cohesive continent to control it.
