New DVD+/-RW Drive... Pimpness
    #2677657 - 05/14/04 01:34 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Just got my new BenQ DW822A DVD+/-RW drive yesterday... WOOT. Im happy it for the price i paid (~$90!)
If your interested in the specs... http://www.benq.com/storage/storage_dvdrw_dw822a_specs.html

Best part is they are releasing a firmware update for it on Sept. 30th that will support the new Dual-Layer media (8.5gb)
That and the Booktype management... that rocks too.  :penis:

Great drive so far if anyone is looking to purchase one.

I wouldn't wave that flag too much until you've given it a few good torture tests.

Dual-layer media is by no means new, it is just now becoming available to John Q.

I think I'll get me a new drive once dual-layer becomes more mainstream (read cheaper, stable, faster)

congrats

Newegg has the NEC 2500A DVD+-RW 8X for $80 shipped (black) and the beige version for a few bucks more. It is extremely silent and there will be an official or unofficial DL firmware release for it. Search www.newegg.com for details. Also comes with free 5 discs of 4X Ritek Ridata's. I paid ~$9X.XX for this March and thought I had gotten a steal of a lifetime!

Quote:

From CDRinfo:
Mitsubishi Chemicals announced that the first DVD+R DL media will be available in the Japanese market end of May. Codenamed "DTR85N1", the discs are expected to cost approximately 1,500 Yen (EUR 11,50).
The media offer an 8,5GB capacity and the supported reading speed is the 2.4x (CLV)

EUR 11,50 is approximately $13.60 USD a disc. Have fun burning [a hole in your wallet]!
