Hi there, the Kilner, Ball, etc. jars are quite expensive in my country. Can I use these as well? https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07H2K1GHS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AJ1X413J061H&psc=1 I know that they should be airtight. But how do I really check for that?

They don't look very airtight, but will likely work. A decent test is fill half full with water and shake, then set upside down.

Looks good. Any jar used for pickling vegetables and sterilising should be airtight. I have just bought some jars from the store and they have worked perfectly even with no filter on, just the lid a little loose on them like in the easy jar lid tek by pastywhyte. You do you, but know that many different ways and equipments work in this hobby. Also the type of jar depends on what tek you are going to use, like if you go pf tek and brf+verm cakes then use widemouthed jars.

Yes of course, normal jars man, exactly the ones I use, go for it! A good test, because some lids to degrade with time or can get busted by making a SHIP to far on the side too close to the rim is filling the jar with water, closing it, and seeing if any drips out. You'll see that the new ones will all be tight.

It is actually one of the cheaper options. Where I am from the sell the Ball ones for like 8€ a piece. They sell it as some sort of 'vintage' item. :-)

Ah man thats rough. Ball jars are usually $1 each over here, sometimes cheaper. I bet those jars will work. It says airtight in the description.

The fuck, 8$ a peice, I only pay 12 or 13$ for 12 jars in the states and I think thats plenty. Someone needs to open a company that markets myco supplies, jars, PCs, lids, filter disks stuff like that. That is terribly unfortunate you guys are getting bent over on that stuff.

Those look like they would work.
When I first started I saved food jars. Just reused them, not ideal but workable. Also if they are available in your country people sell pp5 32oz or one quart containers that work completely unmodified with just the lids loose. I used those quite a bit for grain and muda bottles. They lasted me atleast 15 to 20 cycles and cost a $1 for 2

Yeah salsa and jelly jars work well enough.

Dude, I find it ideal. Not sure that it could get any better. It's especially good for its cheapness and ease of acquiration, which is enticing for beginners and makes the process simpler. I am a fan of those attributes, I dont like to have to go further than my supermarket and want to order as little obscure things as neccesary.
