San Pedro Cactus
    #26774390 - 06/22/20 02:07 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Is this a san pedro cactus? I just received it two days ago, and I want to prep it. I just want to make sure I'm using the correct cactus. And should I expect a small dosage from this small piece?

I see. :sun:

Yes, that's a "SanPedro" /Trichocereus. Not sure about the variety, doesn't look like the common T.pachanoi. But that's not bad, "SanPedro" is just is a general term for active cacti of the Trichocereus family.

Could be a "SuperPedro" /a pachanoi x scopulicola cross. That's a rare and a potent cactus. But IDing cacti is really hard with pictures, especially with plants this small /young.

And no, your plant is way too small to trip from. I mean, if you eat the entire cactus you might feel something, but that's theshold effcts at max. It's not worth killing the plant to get almost no effects.
A cutting the size of your forearm is considered a common dose. Like a foot worth of cactus (12 to 14 inches), with 3+ inches in diameter. Your's isn't even a quarter of that.

Plant it in a big pot, and in a couple of years you might have a couple of doses.

Thanks so much for the help. I will do just what you said, leave it in a pot and watch it grow.

I'll try to keep updates on its growth and hopefully when it matures you guys can help me ID.

I also have an other piece of the same cactus that's about 1½ ft. tall but the same diameter. I'm sure I have to let nature do its thing. I'm not in a rush but it is exciting knowing I am growing something sacred.
