noob w/ question
    #2677308 - 05/14/04 11:37 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, yesterday i heard of some dude who was trying the pf tek, but wasnt sure if his shit went down ok. When mixing the vermiculite with water, the water was only enough to moisten the vermiculite absorbing to the point where it was just damp vermiculite, and when the brown rice flour was added, he wasnt sure whether or not he should of used more water. also the pressure cooker he used didnt have a gauge, nor did it get heated on a stove, he had to use a hot plate, which he left the jars in for about an hour. since the pressure cooker just seemed to steam the whole time and not give us a 'knock' indicating a seal or pressure has been reached, i wonder whether or not the cakes are going to be fucked or not, also should the mixture maybe have been wetter? when pouring into the jar, we just took scoops, it was more like cereal than a pancake mix, if you know what im saying, anyways, today he is going to innoculate the jars, is it even worth it?

no no no. the mixture isn't supposed to be wet. its very dry, i was thinking the same thing when i did mine but it is correct. if you follow the recipe you might have some substrate left over but the moisture will be correct

awesome thats what happend, except the pressure cooker didnt work as good as i thought it should, we had the jars sitting on the tops of lids to jars we werent using (so they werent touching the bottom), and we put them in the cooker for a good hour with steam comming out, so i hope that sterilizes enough, tonite we are goin to innoculate them, should the syringe not touch anything but the glass on the jar? cuz i am certain its going to touch the dry vermiculite at the top, or else the wet shit

I've heard of people actually innoculating the middle of their jars, and it's all suppose to be steril inside at that point anyway. Make sure you resterilize the needle after each innoc.
Peace~

As long as the jars were at least "boiled" for 1 hour, you should be fine.
I dont do brf jars anymore, but when I did,I just mixed each jar seperately to insure the right mix for each, that way you dont have to worry about it being too dry or too wet.I know its alot of extra work, but,I never had a problem with water content.I used the maximum fruiting formula also
1/2 cup verm
1/4 cup brown rice flour
1/4 cup water or 60 cc's(I actually measured out the cc's for each jar also)
And of course I changed it a little by adding 2 drops of organic honey to each jar as a nute booster.I never had a problem with colonization.
1/4 cup dry verm on top

My 2 cents
