the taste of poison
    #2677202 - 05/14/04 10:56 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I am kind of fascinated by the poisonous aspects of plants and fungi, such as the pokeweed plant and many poisonous fungi. I have heard many times over that many, if not most, poisonous shrooms have a good taste, actually, are quite delectable. Is this true? I wonder if there are people who eat them in such small ammounts that they wouldnt die, but would simply enjoy the taste? I heard that many of the poisonous amanitas taste great, bt they also kill you. Can the poison be boiled/cooked away?

Also, i heard that many of the poisonous amanitas give you a trip similar to the A. Muscaria before they kill you. Like they trip you, then kill you. I wonder if this is true?

I visit erowid quite often and have been to the amanitas vault many times. This is no doubt interesting stuff, but doesnt answer my questions. The questions were do amanitas such as the death cap and destroying angel fuck you up? I know they kill you, but you they contain the same psychoactive chemicals as amanita muscaria? Also, i wonder if they taste good? Erowid does mention the fact the many have attested to the fact that death caps do taste good ...

Anybody who has the answer to that question is dead. Unless they told someone they were with while it was happening. That would be pretty twisted -- a death trip sitter.

Maybe you could try it and write up a trip reoprt. I would suggest strongly against it though =p.

I wouldnt be supprised if suicidal people try that. Itll be alot like shooting crack till you die high. I never knew toxic shrooms make you trip

amanita muscaria are relatively low-level poison, and that poison can be boiled away. I believe anno prepared and ate some

I'd have a mod move this to mushroom hunting.... even though its not really hunting, those are definatly the people to ask for intresting mushroom convos :P

And, yes, lots of poisonous mushrooms taste pretty good. Theres even a handful that are considered "palatable" just cause they dont have enough toxins to usually cause a reaction in humans. And as for the cooking poisons off the mushrooms... I assume you'd wanna cook them anyways.. even agaricus (portabella) doesnt taste too great raw...

the more toxic mushrooms would just kill you if you ate more than a mouthful anyway. you could chew and spit it up but wont the poison just be absorbed in your mouth and give you cramps for a week? also wont boiling them render most chemicals nullified, including hallunicogens? Thats why psycobylin shrooms must be eaten raw and cool
