The Great Shroom Olympics, 2004
    #2676995 - 05/14/04 09:14 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Hi all, I'm wondering if it could be fun to stage a little 'shroom olympics' using this thread... the focus as I'm imagining it would best be on shrooms caught on film or digital image in the natural setting (any species from anywhere, but not cultured) in the last year, magic or not... so if you were out hunting around and saw an interesting contender for one of the catagories, you could take a pic and submit it to the Olympics... chuckle... some catagories I'm thinking of are 'tallest shroom', 'widest shroom', 'darkest shroom', 'scariest shroom', 'most shrooms in a patch (ANY species, has to be a natural setting/ location though), 'brightest shroom', 'cutest baby P.auruginosa' (don't know how that catagory snuck in there...)... if anyone has any thoughts on this and suggestions for more catagories (not magic shroom specific please), I'll look into the 'voting' stuff to see how we could vote on the winners, and set it up... OK I've just seen the 'add poll' thingy at the bottom of this screen... should be easy... any suggestions on catagories...?

Rarest shroom', duly noted/ added/ nice one ... that category would have to come with a warning that you're not allowed to/ shouldn't pick it though (carefully take a wee section for a print would be a different matter, an endevour of conservation ... 8-)

Also I guess there would have to be a totally open catagory 'most artistic/ best shot', or sommat like that... (would have to be totally natural shroom/ setting, extra points for gd focus... and I guess being savvy with JPG compression, cause the limit is 400kb on this site! PS. 'powerpoint' converts a tif/ huge jpg into a much smaller one quite well)...

I have snapped some great pics of 'shrooms in the rain' (long shutter speed/ overcast weather/ raining') and that might be another fun catagory... (be sure to shield your cam from the rain though!!! chuckle...)

I guess for 'tallest' and 'widest cap' shroom, there will have to be a ruler in the pic... mebbe one with/ one without ruler... hmmm
'Heaviest shroom' would be impossible to judge and depend on hydration so I guess thats out altogether ... might have to expand the catogories into such things as 'spore-print-art' etc, to keep it interesting... any suggestions welcome ...

ALready posted the tallest (23")

Also showed the widest cap form Bob Harris (10"), the size of a 33 RPM record albumn.

Showed the most abundant before tens of thousands of Mycenas, also showed similar Galerina patches,.

mj

Showed new species of several Psilocybes of only two tr three shrooms ever found.

Posted the five and larger sized underground masses of fungi articles and pictures.

It would not be fair to others. But sounds cool.

I found a cube cap a couple summers ago that was at least (literally) 9-9&1/2"'s in diameter.
-I ate that bad-boy along with another shroom, that thing taught me a thing or two about Golden Teachers.
--The pictures were posted here but no i think are lost, when the old donkey drool went down i lost hundreds of images.

YEs a cool photo image but do not forget that Cardboard placed the p. cyanescens fotos on woith the P. semilanceata and P. baeocystis shrooms.

mj

Here is a picture of a Psilocybe stuntzii var. tenuis foto
from a lawn in Seattle.

This was dewy also. I am in the process of rescanning more than ten thousand shroom picture fotos which when originally done were all 72 dpi and of 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 size at 72DPI.

Now I am doing all at 300 DPI.

The P. stuntzii var. tenuis

Sorry Stymee, I have a pm from Cardboard at the time he posted the photo in response to an enmail I sent to him and he told me he placed the Cyans in the picture. He also invited me to come up there sometime to photograph the patch of liberty and baeos.

Well, if he "placed" the Cyans in the photo, then I think it's is a fraud. He got many points for that photo...For it to be fake would be disgusting.

It was meant a joke, I think to get people inspired to go oput and look. Shit you were finding massinve blue ringers and p. cyans at you know where and I and @cro and DH and Psilly girl were picking cyans inthe city and Cardboard made his post. Everyone else was complainng they were not finding anything.

mj

Shit I post images form one area of Seattle and sometimes say they are form the other side of the city. That is to keep shroom thieves out of my patches.

I know of three peopel who had me id shrooms they say they found after you noted soem of your areas onthe shroomery forum Stymee, so I do not tell all of the time where something I found was.

But that is not fraud either.

have a shroomy day
