ID request: P. weraroa? (P. subsecotioide variety) Auckland, NZ
    #26764075 - 06/21/20 04:50 PM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Single mushroom only, growing in leaf litter beside a drain. 30mm tall. Sorry, no photo in growing location.

Caramel colour cap that curls down and hugs stem, dark brown gills, pale stem.

Bruised dark inky blue on stem.

Spore print brown with purple tint.

Edited to try to make the name more accurate (Subsecotioides seems unofficial for a P. weraroa with a descended cap).

So is this mushroom actually an odd variety of Psilocybe subaeruginosa?

When you found it the cap was curling down and hugging the stem?

Definitely looks like Psilocybe Weraroa more than subaeruginosa, especially the cap in picture 1...

What makes you think it's a sub MpSeph?

It Just Looks Like A Sub To Me

The Cap Color Is Off For P. Weraroa, They Are Usually Pale Bluish/Grey.

The cap margin curled right down to the stem, but it looks like a slug got a bit of it.

Indeed P.weraroa have bluish grey "caps". But P.weraroa var subsecotioides have brownish to pale tan caps.
