Is LC the only way to inoculate Shiitake BRF?
    #26762885 - 06/21/20 11:50 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Is LC the only way to inoculate Shiitake when grown BRF as in a PF Tek Style? I cloned a supermarket mushroom, so I dont have a bought mycelium syringe. And I heard Shiitake (just as Oyster) Spores are stubborn to germinate for home growers, its a little advanced.

Also can you use larger jars with this mushroom fo PF-Tek, for example even quart jars?

Sounds to me like yes, LC is gonna be the only way to go there if you wanna do pf-tek.  Unless someone else has an idea.

And no, as far as I'm aware you cannot do pf-tek in larger jars.  But I've never done pf-tek at all so I'm no expert at that method.

I would think you could colonize some 1/8 hardwood dowels and then just push them into the PF jar but LC seems much easier.

And how do I prevent the moisture content from getting too much on the wet side when using LC? This is more of a general question about LCs, with OF its easier I feel like, because the exact number of ml H2O added is known, so I can just subtract like 20ml from that and then I know I have 20ml of LC "space" that I can inject. But for example with grain, so far I never did the one step, measure grain and H2O volume method, will I have to get into that now? Or maybe you can just try to do it by feeling, simmer the grain 5 mins less or so and just try to make it more dry in an eyeballed kind of way. Or how do you guys do it?
Especially trick I feel like it is when it gets to spawn bags. Because of the size, I would wanna just a lot of LC but its also very hard to have normed "dry" volume and water volume information there, so I guess eyeballing again huh?

Just soak your grain for 24 hours strain for 30 mins place in bag and PC any excess on the grains will be soaked up when you PC. I use whole oats and millet 50/50 by weight because rye is too expensive.
