What is this mushroom I always mistake for an ovoid?

Piedmont region of Virginia. They’re growing next to an ancient railroad tie, amongst the plantains in my yard. I think the stem is too wispy to be ovoids.  I’d like to figure out what they are so I can distinguish them in the future. Setting up a spore print now.
